aren't details supposed to be vague at best after a trip to Vegas? 😉

Vague it will be 😉 Dont worry about that!

It's not a +pad+ , unless you split into two or more. . . Oh, that's right you did with the comment. never mind. 😳

LOL @ BKN clarifying the "rules" of post-padding.

GO BKN!

plus the little pooch is freaking sick with diarrhea? WTF? Not a good time

Thanks to all the guys who gave me advice.. worked well not disappointed at all except for the bad run of Pai Gow I had one morning..

Things I did (I thought I already posted this!)?

Buffets - Bellagio B+, Alladin A+, Paris breakfast A-, and Mandalay Bay Lunch at Raffles(?) C (nothing special)

Dinner at Prime in the Bellagio EXCEPTIONAL!!! Not cheap but exceptional!!!

The one downside (or upside) was the wine list.. I have eaten at some real nice places but I have never seen a more expensive wine list. Few wines under $100/bottle, The upside was that the list was real impressive. I have seen better but it was a nice selection there. The service was nothing short of excellent..

Then we also went to Ka at the MGM. great show great seats.. We had a real good time there as well. Mom was excited to be there and enjoyed her time for her 50th B day!!

The pool at the Hilton sucked.. The pool at the Mandalay bay was grrrreat!...

Last thing.. Vegas is becoming more and more expensive.. Used to be great comps etc.. not any more..

sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

or doubleshot of espresso...

Yeah, me too.. 🙂

I think its all the rain and thunder.

Makes me want to sleeeeeeeeeeeep

But as tired as work makes me, I like it a heck of a lot better than going to class 🙂.

I just found out the girl I took care of in a car accident earlier this week- the one I discussed in the "Things I've Learned from My Patients" thread- died this afternoon. 🙁 Apparently her father called the chief of our VFD (small town, everyone knows everyone) and told him to please tell everyone who was involved thank you for everything we did. They appreciated getting to say goodbye to her before she died. 🙁

DrMom said:
how sad, although not to surprising given what you described. 🙁

Yeah, I was amazed she didn't die on the scene or on the way to the hospital. But then again it still hurts especially since the ED doc clapped our crew on the backs and said that we did "one hell of a job with her.....you all can take care of me any day". 🙁

but you have to remember that just because she didn't make it doesn't mean that you didn't provide her excellent care.

Thank goodness I had my new air conditioner installed today!! I'm done with everything I needed to do for the day...don't know what to do with myself!

Sure is quiet 'round here now that most people have started or will start residency this week!

Yay for 5 day weekends!!

In NY also and just installed my second AC unit in my bedroom. I actually had to put on flannels last night to sleep. Slept like a baby while the city sweated and cursed. Thank god for Utilities inculded.

DrMom said:
so, roja, in this fellowship will you be splitting your time between the ED and working on the masters?

Yeah. I am working part time as an attending (8 shifts/ month) and then doing the masters stuff. Plus quite a bit of clinical research and some curriculum design stuff. I also do quite a bit of critical care stuff... so plenty of stuff to keep me really really busy...

It never ceases to amaze me that there are places without ac. it is barbaric!

Thank goodness my building has central heat/air... sheesh.

😍

so i am trying to make it back onto SDN....this whole "work" "residency" thing is really cramping my style. for some reason i thought that it would be different. not as much paperwork, social work and babysitting...obviously i was wrong. i will try to keep up with the postpadding +pad+

To be fair: my apartment didn't lack A/C, it just had a REALLY old energy hog in the sleeve. It's now been replaced 🙂

Oh yeah. It's July 1st. Good luck everyone. Enjoy these last few hours where the sound of your pager doesn't cause you to reflexively feel overwhelming rage and hatred. Occasionally I hear a phone ring or a pager go off that has the same tone my old pager had and it still gives me chills.

I know I shouldn't say this and I'm sure I'll get tired of it soon, but I've been on call 3 times now and have loved taking pages. I'm doing my internal medicine year, and day to day isn't so great, but when I'm on call, its similar to ED, but longer. I get pages for tachycardia, someone vomiting blood, someone's trach tube is leaking yellow stuff around it, and of course the normal headache/nausea/fever stuff.

and you have to look over the chart and figure out whats going on as quick as you can. just reminds me of er.

Oh annd you do get to go to the ED every now and then for an admission, and I try to hang out there as much as I can haha.

Hell I didn't need internship or residency to do that to me. I already do that when my fire dept pager goes off.

nice, lots of sucking up going on? or no med students/residents around?

gruntdoc (www.gruntdoc.com) has a good "Intern's Lie" link to another blog talking about the roles of everyone on the medical 'team'. haha its funny. now that you are attending should take another look and reassess your goals!
