Now that I've been accepted to med school, I'm in the process of figuring how to pay for it. Unfortunately for me, I'll probably have to pay around $30+K in tuition plus living expenses per year. In addition to loans, have those who are already in med school been successful in securing other forms of financial aid, i.e., scholarships and grants, from outside groups? I'm looking for financial aid where the donator attaches no conditions except to use the funds for school. I've already evaluated the military and National Service scholarships, but I don't want to be held to any agreements.

so basically you want people to give you money, for school, for free.

be sure to post if that works out for ya.

the best I've found is a loan with an OK rate through the PA medical society, capped at $3K.

nutmegs' point is that you're not going to be able to cover much without some kind of expectation in return, whether that be $$ or time repayment.

I have a substantial academic scholarship, but it still doesn't cover my tuition, let alone fees, books, living expenses. I also have a few nice, but small, grants: from the local medical society, a specialty group, and my church (national level). Even with all of these, I still am taking out a significant amount in loans.

I qualify for the school's max in need-based grants/scholarships, but that's hardly enough. So just lots of loans. I have no undergrad debt, so that helps. And I just count on making money later.

Moving to financial aid forum.
