So the schools ask you to mail them a check for the supplemental fees.

Do they accept checks from Canadian banks? Do I have to worry about the conversion rate or will they automatically take the USD equivalent if I just write the check for the amount that they ask for?

Canadian personal cheques wont work. You need to either have a USD account and be able to write cheques from it in USD funds or go to your bank and get bank drafts made out to each school with the amount needed. I found this personally frustrating. It's 2013, why can I not pay online for every school if I want to!!?

Yes they do. Get a bank draft from your bank (like TD or something) and tell them you need it in USD. They will give you the draft on there there will be an US Bank address . If its a bank draft in US funds that you ask for, you will be fine. Make sure you have the 'Payable to' section right.

The admissions offices tend to not understand what a draft is and they will keep saying 'we need a money order'. Believe me, the draft will work just fine.

Good luck.

So I need to get a bank draft for every school individually, and mail it to them? ugh, that sounds like such a hassle...

Is there a fee associated with getting a bank draft?

Thanks guys

Not sure about anything in canada, but if you are ever in the US/have any friends or fam. here then you/they
can go to any Walmart money center and get really cheap money orders (less than $1 fee).

I had to get one when I made the ill informed decision to apply to Howard (they require money orders from everyone as they do not accept personal checks or credit cards).

Yup. Each one individually. Think of it as a part of the 'application experience'.

Sometimes there is a small fee, but there are circumstances under which they waive it. I can't recall them though.

I paid $7.50 per draft from TD... 🙁

i'm canadian, and last cycle i just went to shoppers and got money orders in USD. had them mail each money order to each school. if the school lets you do it online (i.e. Buffalo), then I just used my credit card....it was automatically converted to USD.
