Can someone in a PBL system (preferably LECOM - Bradenton) give me a quick list of pros and cons. Jusst making sure that I'm making the right decision. Thanks.

Might be better to do a search or repost in the allopathic med student forum. They are actually in med school. As for me (who isn't in medical school, and whose opinion probably doesn't matter then), I think its extra. Most learning is done from your personal studies (i.e. book) anyway, so more stuff is just extra to me. Thats just me though, alot of people love it.

We use First Consult all the time in our PBL class...

Take a look at it!

Does anyone know... Is there a list of schools that predominantly use PBL?

I know LECOM and Cornell use it. Who else?

OSU-COM has a Problem Based Learning course which is a large part of the second year. It is integrated with traditional lectures.

PBL has really helped me on clinical rotations, as it is basically seeing patients in a mock setting.

A school that does ONLY PBL requires you to be a highly motivated self learner.

If you are lazy, you may want to attend a school that doesn't have ONLY PBL.

What if you are lazy and self motivated like me? Reading is far easier and more engrossing than going to class anyway. Plus, I think I learn better that way.

I would agree, except maybe that statement wasn't quite strong enough. If you are lazy, you will fail at a school that has only PBL. Like OSUdoc said, though, PBL should help quite a bit on clinicals because you become used to asking for specific tests and reading lab values. A PBL session begins, pretty much, with an H&P. The more comfortable you are with doing that, the more comfortable you will be in your third year, don't you think?

If you are lazy and self motivated, then you prefer the lecture based.

My PBL class is required, and doesn't facilitate laziness.

I don't attend lecture, since they are optional.
