I'm an AMG from a community program. Applied to 30 programs mid-December, but the last LOR did not reach programs till Jan 2nd.
Should I be expecting replies by now?

Wondering if I'm sitting in a big maybe pile...

most of the programs start responding recently, so I think you r ok. but I think you need to apply to more programs.

Wondering how many programs other applicants intend to visit... Coming from a community program I won't be offered the "golden handshake", which means I will be relying on luck. (Most programs accept 2/3 of their applicants from their own residency program)

Anyone receive good advice from a mentor on this topic?

It seems that every year it is getting more competitive. I heard from the FPD in my program that they recieved at least 260 applications. It seems that if there are so many applicants out there the programs will take 2/3 from the internal residency program.

I hope i can match somewhere. It seems that the next couple of months are going to be very stressfull...i am still waiting on responses from almost 95% of the programs... good luck to everyone.

They called me shortly after I posted that St Elizabeth had given me an invitation. When I made my list of programs UF was actually my #1 choice. Still, I gotta hope that I kill the interview and they don't simply fill from within.

I'm an AMG resident at a university based program on east coast. Applied to 27 programs. Have 4 interviews, no rejections yet. Currently offered interviews at:
Temple
University of MD
Washington Hospital Center
UCSD

I think it's still very early. Most people say that they get offers into Feb/Mar and have interviews running into April. So don't worry guys, it's early. I read that other thread from previous years(http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=347852 and
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=243760) and it seems like there's still time.

I'm curious if people have noticed a trend between who has rejected them, and who has sent an invitation to interview.

Has anyone been rejected from average programs, and given interviews at excellent programs? If so, have you spent time at the excellent programs, or do you feel that it's completely random?

Thoughts:
1. Programs take known commodities
2. Programs want to interview applicants that will ultimately match at their
program, hence they may eliminate "over-qualified" applicants.
(Employers often do this in other fields)
3. I should just chill the heck out, and watch football.😀

I've sort of wondered the same thing. I have an interview at program(s) I didn't think I'd get an interview at, and haven't heard from programs I thought I would (and based on this message board, other people have gotten interviews/rejections from programs which I'm still waiting on a reply from).

So I don't think there is much rhymn or reason to the interviews... but I'm still hoping on some of the them. I also wonder about some of the smaller programs (most Pulm/CCM programs being small), if they just feel obligated to invite a few outsiders, but will they give their internal applicants the positions? I guess there is no way to know, so I just give it my best shot.

Nice City, Excellent Hospitals, Good Staff, Good Research, etc. Cannot compare to UVA as I've never been there, but a very good program. I mention this because an earlier post asked for info on the two programs.

Received via e-mail. (note: invites come directly from PD, which is unique amongst the group of invites/rejections I've received so far)

i am slowing down after my 3rd iv. TJUH said although i had a strong apl, i was late as they already filled their iv slots so all they can do is keep me in hold. UMDNJ informed they had my appl now.

just got back from vaca ! Spoke to my director , most programs at uni's will interview a bunch but offer their internal applicants so be careful !
I have only 1 interview so far at albany and a rejection from UPenn nothing else !
Waiting to hear from TJUH, drexel, TUH and penn state .
Ny programs have'nt downloaded applications yet , damn this is soo annoying i ahve no nails left i chewed them all !

IMG, reasonable scores plus publications, prev. exp. in the field
applied to 50 plus programs, so far 2 IV's, about 7-8 rejections, depressing
not heard from the NYC programs,
are they gonna wake up?😴

I am now to 3 ivs (including home program) but the last week has been deadly silent. I salivate when ppl say they say they got calls from UVA, CC, VCU, and U Fla!!

is it worth it to interview at places that only have 1-2 positions per year?
Or should i be treating every interview equally? Im not being picky but being heavily rejected by big university programs 🙁

Got one from Creighton today.

Have only heard from one of the smaller programs, which makes me believe that the research portion of my application is far better than the other portions of my application.

A note on the smaller programs with 20 interviews per position: If you have a strong personality that likely will click with the interviewer then I so go for it!! Resume alone will not separate you from a pool that large.

is there any pattern of interviews/rejections?? i mean, the same progs who have replied so far...did the same progs sent int/rej last year around this time???

no word from NY progs yet...quite hopeful as i'm a NYorker & the progs are numerous...

Just got my 3rd rej from MUSC. No inv, I think I should give up, was wondering if all the programs will at least send a rejection or they will completely ignore you?

Which leaves many programs that have not responded. If it's anything like what I remember about the Residency match, many programs may not reply at all.

Invites (UMKC, Brown, Creighton), but the new ones all offer essentially the same interview days (Fridays in March & April)😱

What's up with that? Offering only 3-5 interview days, which happen to be the same as Virginia/UF/VCU/St E's interview dates. Gotta find someone willing to trade shifts, which means I'm going to get HOSED.


If you guys get a chance, try to not schedule interviews on Fridays in March/April. Those are ones to save!!!!!!

Strangely enough, no - my only Ohio connection is that my spouse was born there, but I didn't include that on my app or anything. Spooky, no?

Got an iv from Wayne state this PM with no alternative dates. Unfortunately, hav already scheduled Drexel for the same date yesterday.I will try writing to/calling both but am at a loss.......... dont wanna lose any intv.

and i am so suprised that in .........2008.. ......programs like drexel or wayne state do not have a good website!
