Thanks Lindy. Unfortunately, I don't have the time or money to take more science courses, so I'm stuck with a permanent 3.33 science GPA.

I'm definitely NOT applying to just DO schools this time around. Obviously, they're no less number ****** than MD schools are.

Oh well, at least I get another year and a half to hang out with my buds and wifey without the stress of edumacation. Maybe a break will do me some good.

Is that your plan, God? Because I sure don't know what it is now.

I am pretty surprised that you got rejected, your numbers are fine, I think that the reason why you did not get in is because their class is just soooo small (80 people). If it was a bigger class like NYCOM, PCOM Pa, LECOM, I am sure you would have been at least waitlisted. By the way, you may still want to add few schools to this cycle (DO) and there is a chance that you may still get an interview this year and will be in somewhere by fall 2005. My advice, and I am not sure how it suits your geographic situation, apply to LECOM, both Fl and Pa and Pikeville and try NYCOM, they are really behind this year and I do not think that they even started to fill up their class, they are just interviewing for now. So, you do not have to wait another year, if you are speedy and persistent and willing to go places that would not be on the list initially, you still have a fair shot, I would say that if you apply to LECOM and NYCOM, your chance of being accepted would be just as good as at all the other schools that you interviewed already.

Sorry to hear of your letter..
I still haven't heard from PCOM-Atlanta.. but I sent my deposit to a different school today... so it looks like even if I get in I won't go... not set on it.. but it's unlikely at this point.

I agree with what others said... apply to some additional schools.. you may have some luck.

Andrea

JKD, I'm so sorry to hear about what happened. I remember looking at your MDApplicants profile a while back and I did notice you withdrew from a few of the schools you originally applied to. There is a lot of time in this cycle left, and it would be in your best favor to apply to at least 5 or 10 more - even if it means relocating. This is a very selective process and it would do you no good to limit yourself to so few places. I'm sure you would have a lot more interviews (and even acceptances) lined up that way.

He didn't die! You don't have to offer condolences. JK if it is any consolation I got waitlisted at NOVA last cycle and they strung me along till the very end. They kept on telling me I had a very good shot of getting off. Never happened. This is the game, all you can do is play it. I think being an EMT is a major plus, it was at my interview. You can do the course in 6 months and then you get somewhat of a taste of the real clinical world and not biochem till your nauseus. Anyway just a thought.

Jk, I know we've had our differences but I really want to offer my condolences & encouragement. And congratulations on your pending nupitals.
A few things to consider:
1. You're young
2. You're obviously bright
3. You came very close this time around
4. You live in the land of opportunity

So this time really show them what you can do on the MCAT.
After the MCAT focus on courses that will most directly help you in Med school. Stuff like A&P, biochem, genetics, developemental bio, histology, neuroscience, immunology etc.
If you have time another great thing to do is become an EMT.
Finally, you have your health, your youth, a new bride to be, & you really do live in the land of opportunity. 👍

Best of luck with your future plans JDKMed. You obviously have the support of the people in this room. Sorry things didn't work out at PCOM or VCOM. You might try different LORs next time as well.

Congrat's to you. I just got the follow-up USPS letter to the email acceptance. It begins to feel a little more real, especially when it's nearing time to pay up 😱

Hey!
I know BMW19 and I have sent in deposits, what about bigbassinbob and orthofixation? Have you guys made decisions yet?

I'm going to go ahead and send in the deposit. I think PCOM looks like the best choice right now.

I still haven't heard from them.. no letters in the mail no emails nothing...
I Interviewed on 12/6. Am hoping ot hear something in tomorrow's mail.. mail seems to be slow getting here to NC from anywhere more southerly from here.
I more just want to know now than anything.. yes or no.

Congrats to all who've heard something good.

I concur and will almost certainly make the deposit. Only saving $100K in-state could sway my opinion. I have to wait until Feb. 1 to find out though. My deposit is due Jan. 7. The $250 is much more reasonable. I may want to ask some more questions about MS3-4 rotations and distance issues before finalizing. Biosailgirl and BMW19, congrats on locking in. It's nice to have a firm direction in place.

So bob, can I assume you are a bass fisherman?

BMW, are you a beemer fan? I've had a 1996 328i since it was new. They make awesome driving cars. My next one will be an M3. Unfortunately, it will be quite a while. Maybe by PG3, 4 or 5.

BTW to PCOMers-to-be, I love the South. People are friendly, weather is warm, and I love the outdoors. Everyone I met was very nice including students, staff, local DO's and even most of the people I talked to while traveling in the area.

I will buy a house (me+wife+son) and the costs near the school are very reasonable. The suburban location will really help with minimizing wasted time in traffic. Has anybody been to the building? I know it is in an industrial type park with offices, etc. I had to take off to the airport but would have liked the opportunity to look around the area at housing, amenities, etc. I know the Mall of GA is just a few miles away for you shopping types.

Indeed you can. I wonder if there are any good lakes around Atlanta...

Indeed there are two great lakes in Atlanta (both very close to the school). Lake Lanier and Lake Altoona. Lake Lanier is huge and you can do almost anything there (i.e. fishing, boating, swimming). You will enjoy it. Ortho, I don't have beemer just yet, they are my initials but I do hope to have BMW's BMW one day.

bigbassinbob said:

I saw Lake Lanier on my laptop maps. It's under 20 miles from campus. That's very cool. Now, if I can just find some friends with a boat that like to water ski. I already sold all my toys to go back to school 👎

For those of you that have already heard back... do you think there's any point in calling them and leaving a message?

I really just want to know.. I'm pretty sure that I know what the answer is (no!), but I want some confirmation. It will have been 3 weeks on Monday.. and others that have interviewed long after me have already heard one way or the other.
TIA,
Andrea

Andrea,

It's unlikely you will hear anything from the woman who answers the phone. She might tell you when the letter for you or your interview group went out, but she won't tell you about a decision.

I'm sure you hunch is correct, however; more than likely, you should be considering other options. It is possible, however, that they haven't decided on your fate yet. I believe my app was shuffled around a couple of times before a decision was rendered.

I figured that would be the case. I didn't really expect to get a verdict from her. My mail is notoriously getting lost, so I'm wondering if something (rejection or otherwise) got lost in the mail. One of my secondaries and a couple other school-related letters about apps have been lost in the mail and then delivered 3 weeks later (so I almost missed deadlines etc).. sooo it's not unheard of around here lately. I may give them a call today if I don't hear anything in the mail.

thanks for the advice.
Andrea

Pratik,
When did you interview? I'm curious because I'm still waiting to hear anything from them.. I interviewed on 12/6.

Congrats, BTW

Andrea

just went back and saw that you interviewed on 11/20.. WOW they took their time letting you know.. so there might still be hope for me.. who knows.

Thanks... I live about 10 mins from where the school is gonna be. Im not sure if that is where I am coming. The jury is still out for a couple of MD and DO schools post interview. MCG is only about 11,000 a year...its gonna be tough to pass up

NEVER pass up an established, quality school, for a new school without a reputation.
That is coming from a DO that has lived a little.

What school did you have to learn the hard way freeeeeeeeedom? Just curious. Remember PCOM philly has the rep. to back up its sister (and the $ more importantly).

I live right near where they are building the school and caught my 12.5lb (on my wall) in a pond about 15 minutes away. In fact my father's 12.8 and 9 lbs. were caught there as well. I would tell you how to get there, but then I would have to kill you. 😛

I finally broke down and emailed the person that scheduled my interview.
Today I was notified that my application was on hold. They also told me that they sent a letter out stating this on December 7th..and that it hadn't been returned to them as of yet.. so it's probably lost in the mail... lovely.

Anyway.. don't lose hope yet, you never know what might happen.

I'm not holding out that they're going to change their minds and say yes.. but at least I know now that they've sent something and aren't just ignoring me.

Andrea

andrea... I'm an MS-1 at pcom philly. don't get too disappointed about the decision to hold your application. Pcom gets a ton of apps, and if they didn't want you, they would have just told you so. the fact that they waitlisted you shows that they think you'll fit in, they just don't have the space right now. Pcom has one of the lowest deposits for DO schools ($250) so its not a big gamble for people to pay it to hold there spot. There will be tons of movement on the waitlist bt now and the sart of school, so don't give up. good luck!

hey guys, i just got an interview invite from the school by email. im from texas and i was wondering how to get to duluth-theres no airport there(prolly flying to atlanta), and transportation to the office. i cant rent a car cuz im not 25.

thanks

duluth is about 30 miles from the airport which is about 45-60 mins in medium traffic. Im sure there are shuttle services to the area from the airport. There is a hotel that is literally across the street from the place they interview. I cant remember the name but pm me if you cant find it. Im gonna drive by there this weekend and i will try to remember to check.

Congragulations omelette and Good luck on your interview. I am interviewing on 6th Jan and i will be staying at Comfort Suites Gwinnett Mall. I found them on hotels.com
It is 0.3 miles (Travel time 1 minute) from our interview location.

If you guys are looking for a good hotel near the office building they are interviewing at, stay at the Holiday inn express on Shackleford road. It's literally right behind the office building and there's a path so you can walk to it. 59 bucks, free breakfast, nice rooms.

how long does the interview last? i was thinking there was a tour then i realized the schools not done yet....and how does the shuttle service work?

thank you

How was your interview, and were you impressed with the facilities?
Oh, did you have a recommendation from a D.0? I ask because I know they do not require one but do suggest that you include one.

Thanks 🙂

For those of you who have interviewed in GA already for a spot in the 2005 PCOM-ATL class...How was your interview, and were you impressed with the facilities? Oh, and did you have a recommendation from a DO? I ask because I know one is not required but is suggested. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I thought the interview went well. It's pretty laid-back and most of the staff there seem to be pretty damn cool.

There aren't really any, "facilities" as the school isn't finished yet, but what they have planned is pretty impressive.

I had a good letter from DO.

I ended up being rejected, and they won't say why. What PCOM-GA does for this year, and hopefully only this year, is create a score for your interview. Your interview score and everything else is then presented to the committee in Philadelphia, who apparently make the final decisions. I feel my two interviewers liked me, but just couldn't sell me to the adcom in Philly because of my low PS.

Good luck.

I think my interview lasted around 20-30 mins and was with a community DO and an admission committee member. The interview was not really difficult, standard question answer type format. But the questions were pretty simple ( see the Interview Feedback page).

There was no tour of the school, but they did have blueprints and did talk about what they were going to have technology wise. I was pretty impressed with what they had planned.

I did not have a letter from a DO

I also stayed at the HI Express. Very convenient and good $$ rate for the area.

Nicola: Interview was 2 DO on 1 applicant. Mine was 35-40 minutes. They asked the typical: Why DO?, Why doc?, In it for the $$?, etc. Make sure you know about osteopathy. One on my day did not and even I was unimpressed with her questions. I have a DO letter but have never read it.

The facilities will be great, wireless, leading edge library technology, fitness area with grad level personal trainer on the payroll. 95,000 SF on one level, high ceilings, room for expansion, research area, etc.

Good luck to all applicants.

The interview is very laid back -- just make sure you know why you want to be an osteopathic physician. The blueprints and plans they have for the school really are amazing. They have put a lot of money into their new building. I had a DO recommendation. Good luck.

From 8-9 is the talk about the school and facilities. My day finished around 10. But it depends when your interview is. There are 3 groups of interviews i believe they are at about 9, 9:45 and 10:30. I suspect you should be done no later than noon

Wow! That is kind of early. How many interviews do you have and how long are each of them?

just one interview that was around 30 mins. However the interview was two interviewers with one applicant

They lied! I was told that they had no Saturdays planned in January. Man, I really needed a Saturday interview too.
