PCOM Biomedical Sciences 2015-2016

Can anyone who was in the program this year comment on their personal or the overall classes success for getting accepted for PCOMs Class of 2020? I have applied to PCOM this cycle (and multiple other DO schools), however just in case I am not accepted anywhere I am considering to apply to PCOMs certificate program and apply again next cycle (with hopes of getting into PCOM-PA). On the fence, however since there is no guarantee/direct linkage. Any insight would be helpful.

I am in same boat as you. I haven't applied to DO schools yet and not sure how I will do until I take my MCAT April 1st. I am applying to LECOM's post-bacc and PCOM's certificate program in case my MCAT isn't as strong as I would hope.

If I score a 504+, I don't think I need to attend either of these programs. If I fall short of this MCAT score, I will be attending one, in addition to applying to DO schools.

I wish PCOM had LECOM's interview guarantee!
 
If you have a 3.0 gpa after the first term in the BIOMED program you get an interview. There is no guaranteed acceptance. I know two people in my class who applied after the first term, and both were accepted. The others I know, were WL, the rest just interviewed 2 weeks ago and are awaiting a response.

Applied to other programs or LECOM's?
 
I don't understand your question. Did they apply other medical programs or biomed programs. They have all applied to other medical schools. Only one I know has been accepted to medical school. One other person in my class interviewed at Mercer but I don't know the result
 
I'm sitting at a 3.1 and a 503 MCAT. No acceptances to any DO schools, 1 waitlist to LECOM-B. Does this sound like a good idea to pursue this program? I would rather pick the PCOM-GA because of location. Does anyone have any actual stats to how many students matriculate into med school after their first year? How many into PCOM?

Great LOR's
2 world-famous research labs
2 pubs
plenty of shadowing hours
not too much volunteering hours

I honestly applied mid to late fall. Around october. I'm debating whether to apply to some post-bac or apply earlier and broader. I want to stay in the south east if possible. MD/DO is no difference to me.
Need halp.
 
PCOM GA min mcat is 495 and I know of an acceptance with a 495. I honestly don't think you need this program, if you do I would do one semester and apply again

DIY post-bacc and get GPA as high as possible. You should have been doing that this year and ready to apply in June with a 3.4+ GPA. And you def should have been volunteering. I would maybe take a few summer classes + volunteer, and apply again ASAP.

How would one go about this? I graduated and have a assload of science courses already so I don't see the GPA swinging that much.
Maybe I can MCAT one more time and murder it instead?
The reason I didn't do a masters/post-bacc because an ADCOM member at my local MD school said that it would be more beneficial to work in prestigious research and I drank the kool-aid on that pretty hard.

that is quite a low score. but I think that's more of the exception, not the rule. you think I should re-apply again but way earlier? i'll admit, because of PCOM's strict letter policy and horrid communication, my app wasn't fully complete until mid to late december. I also have a strong letter from a PCOM attending at the osteopathic teaching hospital and I thought that would help a lot but sadly it hasn't
 
Hey Im new to SDN and I was wondering what my chances are at being accepted to the Biomedical Sciences program. I still need to send my updated transcript and also sent a LOR to the school. Im pretty scared right now because I feel like my stats arent good enough for the program much less for any reputable DO school. LET ME KNOW!! LOL
My stats are the following:
MCAT- 25 (8BS/10PS/7VR) the VR and BS are pretty low
cumulative GPA: 2.73 with a strong upward trend
ECs:
about 100+ hours of volunteering at the ER and volunteering services
about 50 hours of shadowing with an MD physician
2 months of research at micribiology lab
doing some tutoring now

All I can tell you is I know you have to have a 495 for an acceptance. Honestly your MCAT is fine for PCOM, especially Georgia. Take any other sciences you can. I took botany, and environmental science, literally everything I could that counted as a science course that I hadn't taken.

Apply to Georgia. Philly, I can't comment.
 
Yeah I applied to the Georgia campus. The only thing im waiting on is the updated college transcript that shows that I have graduated from the University. Proximity wise Georgia is closer to where I live.

Your profile is very similar to mine with regards to your EC's. I think that you have a good chance. Don't think you're not good enough because I thought I wasn't good enough, but I was accepted. Just be prepared for a long wait.

Congrats! We are in finals week for our 2nd term. But if you guys have anymore questions ill apply when i can.
 
Can anyone comment on exactly when this program opened, and when it closes (for both campuses)? I can't seem to find a lot of info on it.
 
After checking the mailbox for days....I am so excited I just got my acceptance status 🙂 I immediately began crying tears of joy. Mainly because my stats are not as strong as i'd like them to be. I hope to see more acceptance statuses...We can do this you guys 🙂
 
Congratulations ksjone5. Ive turned in all the application materials now I'm waiting for the decision. Hopefully that acceptance holds true for me as well. [emoji18]

When was your application marked complete. I never received a completed email, but i called to check on the status.

I sent all my app materials yesterday but I'm still in the process of sending my final transcript that shows that I have graduated from my university. I'm sure all my materials will be in by Thursday or Friday.

It's rolling admissions. There is no "deadline", they will accept until the class is full and that can be up to the first week of classes!

Hey all! Just finished my 2nd semester in the program, finals week is done! I am free to answer anything you want to know!
 
Hey guys, so I'm applying to this program but I'm not going to be able to get my letter of rec until March 15th! Do you all think this would greatly hinder my chances of getting in? Is there anyone in here who got in after submitting their application that late?

For the classes you've already taken do you think its necessary to buy the textbooks? By necessary I mean that do you think its possible to make all A's without the textbooks? Thanks.

Yes plenty people don't have books. I personally am I bookie, so I bought them all. I've never had biochemistry, so for BCMB, a course we had, I had to use the book, and especially for embryology. But plenty of people have no books. But we have a Google drive that has all the books in PDF form that people use and the library has them too.

My stats were lower than my classmates and still got in. Don't worry.

How would you rate the difficulty of the program? I have taken some upper level biology courses at my university but how much would those prepare me in the Biomedical Sciences program?

I don't think it's incredibly difficult, but there will be classes that some do really well in, and some that you'll struggle in. If you've had biochemistry before, BCMB (Biochem/cell/molecular biology) will be fine, I didn't so it was mildly difficult for me. Embryology, I've never had, but I'm an RN, so certain things we talked about like TSH, LH, gallbladder fxn, just moderate things I knew, and our "anatomy" class was BREEZY for me. Because I do EKGs for a living, and I've had anatomy before so when we were tested on those things, it was a "refresh". So I think ultimately it depends on you. But if you came into this program with no prior experience I think you could manage.

This program is not what you think, and you'll learn that.

Can I ask what you mean by its not what we think? It's not bad I hope. I'm really counting on this program and hoping to do well.
