Hey Guys, my primary is being mailed out this week, i have a 3.54/3.41 27(8v,9p,10b) along with decent Ec's. You guys think it's a bit late for PCOM? I'm going to get my secondary in ASAP.

No you should be fine. I know people who didnt submit all there info until Jan and still got in.

Hey, guys,

I know it can take from weeks to forever to hear back once you are complete, but I'm trying to guesstimate my "pecking order."

Those of you with admits and MDapps profiles so far have been very strong applicants, many with PA residency.

Anybody here OOS or got in last year OOS? When did u get your interview invites and what were your stats?

PCOM's a very strong school, and so far for the 2008 cycle, I haven't seen any GPA's (both sci and cum's) below the 3.4-3.6 range or mcats below 27-28. And these are PA residents!

When can those of us from the "other side of the border" expect to hear something? 🙁

I did earlier this month... Im out of state 3.02 BCPM 3.2 Overall 31Q MCAT.... but im Brown soo maybe im not the best to compare

LOL...I think brown people are over-represented in the field, maybe not Osteopathic Medicine but Medicine in general. So I'm not sure if adcoms look at us any differently than white-caucasians, but who knows.

I just got this email in reply to my aforementioned LOR problem

It said that the career services office at my college can compile a letter based on the letters i have from my profs, and this can be sent in lieu of a letter from my advisor.

uhh...what?!

my school's pre-med office did this, and it basically means that you have the writers of all other LORs give their letter to one office/person, and that person will write an overall recommendation for you in place of the pre-med advisor if your school doesnt have one. Think about it this way...med schools cant read all of your LORs, so instead your schools career services office can write an overall LOR to make it easier.

Haha, don't worry, you're fine to compare with. The reason everyone is laughing is because no medical school cares if you went to Brown; they care about your GPA far more. So a 3.9 from Podunk State goes a lot further than a 3.0 from Harvard.

Isn't harvard notorious for grade inflation?

Makes a 3.0 all the more valueless, eh?

I don't think Harvard inflates grades as badly as some schools were/are, though. Princeton was doing it really bad for a while, but they changed that now.

By BROWN i meant hispanic/black... lol... ivy leagues are overated

and my school practiced grade deflation there was only one A in every class kinda sucks

What is the budget that PCOM usually approves for incoming classes? I know that tuition increases, but generally how much is alotted for housing and such? Is it feasible to have your own apartment, or do most usually have to share?

Ha... that's a pretty amusing misinterpretation on my part.

3.0/31Q/possible URM = very good shot

Hey guys! I'm a first year here and I'll try to answer questions whenever I have the time to get to them, haha 🙂

hyperIris: Guys wear shorts/gym shorts and are shirtless whenever the upper body is being worked on. Otherwise, the shirt can stay on. For girls, we're required to have shorts and sports bra/sports tank/etc.. Most girls wear a shirt over the sports bra and when it's our turn to be worked on, we just take the shirt off.

DOcat: There are lots of us that live by themselves (myself included) but I also know a lot of students that have roommates. Honestly, I would say that the majority of students prefer a roommate to keep costs down. Some of the students that live by themselves rely on private loans to help them through, others use their parents or other sources. I don't have the exact numbers, but maybe one of the students w/admissions can step in and help me out.

Hope this helped 🙂 Back to studying...😴

I heard that PCOM has a high acceptance rate of their interviewees. In other words, if you get an interview, you are more than likely going to get an offer. Is that true? Please tell me it is! haha Also, I'm OOS so are my chances lower?

so who else has PCOM as their top choice?? I'm hoping to meet some future classmates on here...and i feel lonely 🙁 the only poster on the official class of 2012.

It's my top choice. I'm in the biomed program here right now. We are guaranteed interviews, but not until feb. I'll be so depressed if I don't get in.

I don't know that I have a top choice at this point, but I do think I'd have a tough time turning them down if I were to be accepted. I fantasize about learning medicine in philly.

I'm going to be meeting with my advisor tomorow to get a letter of rec, had quite a bit of trouble with that
but it should be in within 10 days along with my secondary and other letter
is end of october too late to send in a secondary to pcom?

PCOM requires a committee letter. Do you have one? If your school has a committee you must use it.

Well we (the city) have all walks of life. Rich, poor, addicts, elitists, the humble, the insane, the normal.

theres no committee at michigan state
thats why i'm going with the advisor letter
i was told that i could use a career services office to make a composite letter from professors if i wanted as well
but the advisor letter seems like an easier and quicker option

i go went to a school around philly, and didn't want to go through the pre-med office, but broke down and got a letter. Take it for what it is, the lady at my pre-med office said a committe letter is one of the most important parts of the app

But what if your school doesn't have a pre-med committee? My school just sounds out a cover letter that includes the various letters from your professors. The cover letter itself is not a recommendation later, but a brief biography and it is also something official from a specific office. Will this put me at a disadvantage?

I'm still not 100% sure what they mean by committee letter but I sent in rec. from 2 of my science professors and a physician I used to do a research under to the health advising office. My understanding is they just send out the rec. in one big envelop to the designated school. And it worked fine for me.

i made a recent tour to the school. very good overall... It was aowsome to get greetings from Ms. brown (front security officer) as soon as you enter through the front door.

everyone was great... everyone greeted us with smiles.

students were very humble about their experiences. They did scare me little bit. One student was telling that 50 students were failing their core courses but that number is down to 20 this year.. so far... But only about 5 had to repeat a course for summer.

i got a little lump in my throat when you hear something so blunt but I appreciate it that so you know this is THE MAJOR LEAGUE

oh yeah, all the facilities were great. got to see their lacroscopic and endoscopy toys for MS3/4. Its kind of funny that a local news channel did a story on Jefferson getting a robotic patients but PCOM already had this stuff with simulation labs. The word on the street is that they are also getting a new "pregnant" robot...

Another local channel did showcast PCOM's toys too.

I looked all around the PCOM site and couldn't find the year 1 and 2 schedules
can anyone help me out here?

Does anyone know if Drexel is close to PCOM?

I'm gonna visit a friend at Drexel and was wondering if PCOM was close or not so I can take a tour of its campus. Thanks!

If you're driving a car yes. Public transit wise, not so much, but it can be done.
Car: City line to 76east (i think) to exit 346 (univ ave/univ of the sciences). This puts you on 38th. At market make a right and drive to 34th. Make a left and go north. That'll put you in drexel's campus.

Hey I just got my interview invite friday for PCOM GA, it will be my first interview, I am from michigan, flying down the day before.... anyone have any pointers or information regarding their interviews or anything?!?! i'm reading the website and trying to get as much info as I can... kind of freaking out... naturally.. 😕😕🙂😕😕 plus i've never posted anything on here before, does it email me if i get a reply or will i have to keep checking back?

If i added pcom to my aacomas last year, and received a secondary from them, but never filled out the secondary...do I count as a reapplicant?

I would think so. But I don't think it really matters, although they might wonder why you never filled out the secondary.

Now I'm a bit confused about LOR requirement.
I didn't send in anything from the Dean or premed committee (no such thing in canada), but they just emailed saying that my file was complete. Does that mean I'm good then?
My letters were from 2 sci prof in my dept whom I did research with and 1 also taught me, and 1 DO.

I am pretty sure that the application said that if you don't have a premed committee, you can replace it with a science professor or advisor. I am guessing you are good, but if you are still questioning it, call the admissions office.

A letter of recommendation from the premedical committee or premedical advisor of the undergraduate college that granted or will grant
a Ba c h e l o r’s degree, re g a rdless of your academic major, course of study or date of graduation. If that is not possible, a letter from your academic
advisor or Dean of the same institution may substitute.

thast from the application (sorry for the formatting)
when i emailed them asking if a science prof could substitute for the first letter they basically said no
you may want to talk with them about it before its too late

So, i am new to this....seeing the total of 2 posts. Anyways PCOM must really hate me, I have not heard from them at all and of course it is my 1st choice school. I know others are dying to get in too but sigh..what to do. My file was complete in august and it is now coming toward the end of oct. and nothing. I have intereviwed and been accepted at other schools. I have till sometime in dec to make a desposit but I don't want to because I want to go to PCOM.

Am I just not right for the school? I thought my stats were ok, not steller. 3.81 overall gpa, 3.8 science, chem, and physics gpa, ok the mcat sucked bad 22, but hey i have great EC's, president of 3 student government boards and on plenty of others, received many awards, and have done research at a pretty top notch school and presented at conferences.

Anyone have advice? similar situation? I am praying so hard but I am starting to lose hope.

I haven't heard a thing from PCOM either... It is not my top choice but high up there. I am very very happy with the schools I have been accepted at though so I'm not too beat up about it.

Are you a PA resident? I hear you have a better shot if your a PA resident. I was complete in Mid September and received a complete letter in snail mail. Nothing else after that.
