PCOM Interviews?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think its my 24MCAT. I have a ton of shadowing (like 500Hours volunteer in a country Hospital over 5 years), I did research in neurons in marine biology for 3 years, LOR for chief of Surgery, and one DO, plus undergrad pre-profesional committee.

Are you a PA resident?

If you read over past year's threads, you will see that PCOM holds all decisions until they're done with the cycle. This is good-they want more time to review and re-review your app or bad-they decided on you so it could be a silent rejection.

You will never know what end of the spectrum you are on with this. All you can do is stick with the usual things like sending updates etc... Good Luck!

It is probably your MCAT as you mentioned. Did you also apply to LECOM?

Great GPA...but that MCAT is pretty low for PCOM. I cant remember what my class's average MCAT was...but I do remember being surprised..because was significantly above what was posted online. Good luck though! Any other interviews?

I'm a post bac at LECOM. As long as you have a 22 or higher, get a 3.0 or higher in post bacc, and they say you will be accepted. They have a strong linkage.

I don't want to stay at LECOM for various reasons. I guess I have to do what I have to do. I applied to WV, but my app is on hold. I won't go there anyways the OOS tution is NUTS!

If it is any consolation, the students who completed the post bac program from Erie are blowing away the first year of med school here at SH. You should do well in MS1 if you stay at LECOM. You could always have a change of scenery in the hills of SW PA if Erie is not your thing.

Can you elaborate why you don't want to stay a LECOM. I'm trying to make a comparison between LECOM and other school and it is nice to hear some negative feedback.

And I also haven't heard anything from PCOM. I thought I had pretty solid stats but idk. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what my status is.

Here is the deal with LECOM. Before, I go on about my dislikes of the school I should start with the positives.

Pros- The campus buildings are kept in top shape. Everything is clean and well kept and the labs are beautiful. I have been here almost a year now and have only disliked one professor. They have great teachers and they will do anything to help pass. The education is really excellent. I have learned more in 8 months from LECOM than in 4 years at my undergraduate school (PITT).

LECOM just opened big reserach labs in Erie. So know DO student can say I couldn't go derm because I didn't have reserach. There are ton of opportunities.

Cons- They are really really really really really really really strict on rules. Grad policy there is no curve. I worked my butt off one class and missed an A -89.3. If I would have would have had 1 more question right.

The Erie weather is awful. I cannot see how anyone would think it is enjoyable. I'm pretty althetic and took a nose dive yesterday coming into my house! There is NEVER any sun.

The dress is code is crazy. They treat the men and women differently when it comes to clothes. Who ever thought it was a good idea to wear a tie for a 4 hour exam? If they see the tie isn't tight or the top botton undone they will ask you to fix it. The girls can wear whatever they want. One girl wears a hat to class weekly and no one says anything. If you forgot to put on a tie they wouldn't over look it!

The next issue is there is no place to study. If you use the campus library you must sit and study in a tie. I hate being dressed up for class and to study so it doesn't work for me.

They are also strict on the whole white coat thing which I think is crazy.

You shouldn't have to proove to your patients that your a good dr by wearing a tie and a white coat. This is the part of medicine I can't stand. I thought becoming a DO would get rid of the old school mentalities, but I was mistaken.

I have no problem dressing up in 3rd and 4th year when you have patient interaction, but everyday to class get real.

I don't like the no food or drink policy. I'm 23 years old I should be able to bring water to class. IT feels like kindergarden at times to me here.

Sometimes as a post-bacc student you kind of get pushed off. Certain professors on campus give you the cold shoulder. I have a feeling that is a OSM1 thing will be different. Since as a post bacc you are still trying to proove you can do the work.

If anyone want to know anything about the post-bacc program let me know. It is wonderful for other than things I mentioned. The kids that get the MCAT score and get a 3.0> or accepted and they usually get about straight A's during OSM1.

WE have about 5-6 med students who failed 1st year (i.e. failing more than 3 classes) had to come back to post bacc to proove they could do it. I'm glad as a post bacc student that wont happen to me!

I also have been complete since late Sept. and not a peep from them OR their Ga campus.

I am a NJ resident
3.65 cumm
3.8 science
27Q MCAT

I just called today and they gave me the standard "still under review" line.
