PCOM (Philadelphia) Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I called here today and they said I was complete. But I had never received the e-mail saying so or the link to check status, does it just take awhile to get the complete e-mail??

Probably, i wouldn't worry too much about it. As long as they said you're complete, then you're all good. The portal is useless anyway

I have an interview at Drexel in Nov. Would love to get to interview at PCOM on the same trip...more waiting, I guess

I suggest you to call or email PCOM admission office and let them know you will be having a trip to Philadelphia during Nov. Let them know that you will be around in town and see if they can possibly invite you for an interview based on your application. This is not uncommon among medical students because I knew people who did this and actually get invited for an interview so they can do two interviews in one trip.

Just got my acceptance letter. PCOM CLASS OF 2015!!!!!!!! I am unbelievably excited!!!!!

Does anyone know about how long it took you to hear back about an interview invite once your file was complete?

It can be a while. Looking back, it took a month between the two for me. I got my complete e-mail on 10/14 and interview invite on 11/12.

I've been complete for 2 months and haven't heard anything...although I don't really expect to

gratz man! after meeting you I knew you would be fine.

Got my acceptance letter today!!! 😀
I love that the first word of the letter is "YES!"

PS, the letter was dated October 6.

Send the admissions office an "in the area" email. Can't hurt to try. If your stats are good enough to get an interview at Drexel, they're good enough to get an interview at PCOM.

Congratulations on the acceptances! PCOM is my first choice so I hope I can be joining you guys.

For those of you have interviewed, would you mind giving some pointers/feedback from it? Thanks!

Congrats on the accepted students! I'll be interviewing there on the 19th 😍

I can't wait to get in there and interview. Do you have any pointers for us? Do they take pictures? They took our pictures at TUNCOM, so I'm wondering if this is a new trend.

Thanks,

-H-

I'm interviewing on Monday, so excited! It's one of my top choices. I'll let you know how it is!

They did not take our pictures.

As for tips, just RELAX. It is really laid back and they are super nice. Be loose and perhaps most importantly, know why you want to be a DO. If they know you really want to be a DO then you will be fine.

Additionally, I can tell you, at least in my opinion, what I think PCOM seems to value (certainly has no real backbone but I get this feeling). It seems they truly value personal statement, secondary essay, and interview more than MCAT and GPA. I think they like seeing someone for who they are and not for their numbers.

Just be yourself. They honestly want to get to know you as a person. They'll ask you questions such as "what do you do on your free time" and "what do you do to de-stress" because they don't want someone who continuously studies. They already know you are a hard worker based on your stats and that every one of their students can do well academically. They want to know how you can contribute to the school and that you actually have a way to de-stress. They truly do like aspects of the applicant outside the academics.

They asked me both of these questions during my interview.

Sounds good! Thanks for the advice. I really appreciate it.

Did anyone interviewing tomorrow (or has previously interviewed) get a reminder email/call? I've gotten one for all my other interviews...

Congratulations!

First choice school?

Thanks!!! Congratulations to you, too! I don't know... I got accepted to VCOM-CC also, and even though I know PCOM has the more established reputation, I felt more comfortable at VCOM. I think the OMM professor who I had breakfast with on my interview day at PCOM just gave me a bad impression about the school when all he talked about was how girls have to wear sports bras to OMM lab. I get that he wanted to warn us, but he just kept saying it over and over... he was the first person we met from the school and he seemed borderline-pervy haha. It's a tough decision. Good thing we have a long time before deposits are due!

anyone from the michigan area hear anything back yet about interviews?

Hey, I was just curious, how long does it take to hear back from PCOM after being complete? I've been complete since late August and haven't heard a thing since then. I'm a bit worried since this is one of my favored schools going into the application cycle and really have my fingers crossed on an interview here. I don't think its a problem with my numbers or a red flag somewhere, as I've interviewed at other osteopathic schools and have interviews scheduled for other Philly schools later in the year. Just hoping to hear back from PCOM, positive or negative (hopefully positive!) since it has been nearly two months now. Is it worth doing an "in the area" e-mail for later this year, even if the interview is at an allopathic school or I'm not that far away but in a different state?

yep I got an interview invite yesterday through email for Nov 15 , I'm turning it down though since i've gotten into my top choice.

when were you complete and what were your stats if you don't mind me asking?

For those of you who have gotten acceptances, how long did it take to receive your letter after your interview? I'm hoping I'll hear before upcoming interviews so I can cancel them if I get in.

I interviewed on 9/23 and they said we'd hear by 10/15. I got my letter 10/7 and it was dated 10/6, so two weeks exactly

I am about to go on my first interview ever (AZCOM) and am hoping to get one at PCOM. When you say it went bad -how bad or why did it go bad?

So, I am starting fall break tomorrow and i'm driving a friend to Phila. airport which goes right past pcom. Is it cheesy if i stopped by to buy a hoodie?

Plenty of people buy them before they start here. You're good.

Just stop by and say hi to Miss Debbie while you're here, too.

How long did it take for most of you to get interview invites here after receiving the "Acknowledgment: Receipt of PCOM Supplemental - DO Philadelphia Campus" email? I got mine 9/3 and still haven't heard anything and I think I have solid stats for DO schools. I already received a DO interview and its right by PCOM. Is it worth sending an "in the area" email?

OOS, 28S, 3.93 sGPA, 3.95 ao

GL:luck: all

Can anyone tell me if the LOR from a Dean is absolutely required? If so looks liks I won't be able to apply here 🙁

The school requires either a letter from a premed committee or the dean. If it's hard for you to acquire that then I would suggest calling admissions. I had a friend who is getting a recommendation from the head of the honor's program, rather than a premed committee or a dean's letter, so I'm sure they will help you figure something out.

My school is rather large and when I called they told me that since we don't have a comittee and our advisors and deans aren't allowed to write letters the fact that my premed office has a letter service is good enough. So if you used your school instead of interfolio or VE then you Gould probably be fine.

TallScrubs, we're bad first acceptees... have you created a Facebook group or official Class of 2015 thread? Cuz I haven't.

Hey, does anyone know which day(s) of the week PCOM conducts its interviews?

I just got a letter from my major adviser. Very basic, just "yes, he graduated from here on such and such a date with such and such a degree". Doesn't need to be an actual recommendation.

Very excited to meet my fellow class of 2015er's...we should make the facebook group open rather than closed maybe?

How long did it take for them to post your LOR as received after it was transmitted?

No, I would like to do my own round of applicant screening before people are officially officially accepted.

JUUUSSSTTTT kidding. I actually made the group and didn't realize it was closed until I got emails asking to confirm members. Oops. lol.

Sent off my secondary last night. So excited! I found a PCOM grad that works where I do and she loved the school. I really hope that I get a chance to interview here!

Good luck to everyone still in the process and congrats to those already accepted!🙂
