PCOM (Philadelphia) Discussion Thread 2011-2012

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just called PCOM and they said that they are in the process of sending out letters. According to the admission office faculty I spoke to, all late interviewers should be receiving a letter (or e-mail according to her??) from now till the end of April.

so you are saying that everyone who has been waitlisted should also get a letter, or just the ones with a late interview?

the adcom met and rendered SOME decisions tuesday. there will be waves of decisions as the year progresses. the adcom is on track and are right where they want to be/have been historically.

The deposit date is 16april12, which will mark the deadline for those previously accepted to pay their second and large deposit.

Interviewed 2/13.

Deferred Decision about three weeks later.

Waitlisted 4/13.

Best of luck to everyone waiting and to my fellow waitlisters..

Interviewed 03/12... deferred decision about a week later.
Waitlisted 4/14.

Interviewed 2/1
Deferred decision letter a few weeks later
Waitlisted on 4/13

I've been accepted to another school, but PCOM is definitely my first choice. I wonder how many people are on the wait list, and historically how many seats have opened up to people on the wait list. Additionally, does anyone have any idea how late they might end up contacting us to say that there are open seats?

So many questions! 🙂

You can be offered a seat from the WL up until the day classes start, ~20Aug12.

Remember, the ADCOM does an OK job of choosing those who will be good matches--okay, but not perfect. The last person to be asked to join the class may very well be the best doc that comes out of the place.

Interviewed 2/6 or something like that... waitlisted.

Oh well... happy to be going to CCOM.

Goodluck to all of you, and for those who have not received an acceptance... keep on truckin. Rooting for you all.

Interviewed mid February, deferred decision 3 weeks after that, waitlisted 4/16 🙁

Beginning of March - interview

A week or so after - waitlisted

16 April - waitlisted again....

does anybody know the realistic prospects of being on the second waitlist at PCOM?

Interviewed 2/14, deferred decision then wait listed 4/16. Has anyone been accepted off the wait list yet? It just seems to grow and grow.... haha

Hi everyone....I hope my post helps with the anxiety of WL. I know the wait/hearing people have been accepted can be extremely stressful, but wanted to post so you keep the faith that there will be movement!

I was accepted 4/13
Interviewed 1/25 - Deferred Decision - 2/1

I am finishing the biomed masters program this year and can say even my 2 year wait is worth having the opportunity to become a PCOM - D.O.

Good luck everyone!

Does anyone know roughly how many people are on the waitlist? Or how many accepted students have submitted their deposits? The larger one, not the $250 deposit.

Any information would help.

Thanks 🙂

Beginning of March - interview

A week or so after - waitlisted

16 April - waitlisted again....

does anybody know the realistic prospects of being on the second waitlist at PCOM?

So we get a snail mail or email??

Did your first letter actually say "wait listed" or "decision deferred"...seems like most on here, including myself, got deferred in March and wait listed within the past few days...

Duon - i got a paper letter in the mail....so no email....just dont get all excited and gitty about seeing a letter with the PCOM logo on it like i did lol

ccren - i believe the actual words that were used were "alternate"....i'm assuming that is the same as deferred decision.....

but good luck to everyone else in the same boat

Yeah...wait-listed.....Snail mail indeed.

So I interviewed in late January, but I am yet to receive my decision. Sure, it could be a wait list but I have no clue. I can say with certainty that I will not be going here if accepted. According to my "delayed decision" letter, I am supposed to be notified by April 26th. As soon as I know I will let you all know. Best of luck to everyone still waiting.

Might be worth just withdrawing your application at PCOM as it may end up saving some poor wait-listed person from a really crappy week if it turns you were going to get accepted...just saying what'd I'd do at least and I mean no offense.

No offense taken..I am just interested to see what the decision is, so I will give it a few more days and if I don't hear I will be contacting the Office of Admissions. I wouldn't want to make anyone wait until the very last moment. Luckily there are many housing options in Philly so making the move shouldn't be too painful. I'm hoping I get an acceptance so I can pass it off to one of you on the wait list.

i never received an interview but i still havent heard back with a no either. Im sure this means a silent rejection but for all the money i pay i think they should at least notify me.

PCOM waits until the end of the application cycle to send letters to those who were not offered an interview invitation.

Good friend of mine:

Interviewed 3/15
Waitlisted 4/13
Accepted 4/21

There is hope for you on the waitlist.

For those who are waitlisted around 4/13and got accepted. Can you tell me when you sent the letters back to tell PCOM that you want to be on waitlist?

I sent the letter back to PCOM to tell them I want to be on the waitlist ASAP. Probably Monday 4/16.

Congrats to you too. When were you interviewed?

I interviewed February 13th and got a deferred decision a couple weeks later. I live in Philadelphia, so that contributed, at least minimally, to my hearing back so quickly after my interview and waitlist notification.

thanks....i really thought that once i got that "do you still wanna be on the waitlist" letter that it was pretty much a no.....still hope!

Has anyone who interviewed in January and received a deferred letter had any correspondence since receiving the deferred letter?

Yes. I interviewed in Mid-January, was deferred in February, and then was accepted in March.

Congratulations!! Were you ever given a wait list letter, or were you accepted directly from the deferred list?

Great, thanks for sharing the info! Best of luck to you when you start in the fall!

I was deferred decision after interview (late Jan) and I received an email today to the effect of "our admission's faculty is still handling applications and can't meet our former deadline of April 26 and you will hear from us by May 4th".
Not really sure what to make of this...congrats to everyone accepted in the last few days though.

I got that e-mail as well, but I decided to just withdraw my application -- I'm still deciding between two other programs I would eventually select over PCOM, so there was no reason for me to wait it out. Good luck to everyone waiting to hear! 🙂
