PCOM - Suwanee, Georgia Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
has anyone got an interview except the people that got one in february? because my application was complete february 2nd and im freaking out because i havent heard anything 🙁

Hmm, I just turned mine in a few days before the deadline and called them and they told me to check back this week for an update. I would call them if I were you because you sent yours in early feb. Don't loose hope however because they must have alot of sorting out last minute applicants like myself :luck:

i thought there was no PCOM deadline, from what I know it's open admissions.

When I interviewed (2/24), the admissions lady told us they had received about 300+ applications, and were still recruiting although they only have 75 spots.

Hey anyone interviewing Next Wed? Does anyone know if the class is almost filled up or not even close? Anyone waitlisted?

ummm 3.4 is a very good GPA at my University its pretty much guaranteed admission to any pharmacy school in the nation...it all depends where you earned that GPA

Just wondering what were your stats, for those of you who were accepted to PCOM?

Thanks

Has anyone started looking for housing in the area? I'm looking for a female roommate if anyone is interested!

Yea, I would like to know when the next interviews are as well..I havent heard anything back yet from PCOM

GA-PCOM is having an open house this Friday 02/26. Just want to let everyone know since it isn't posted on the website. One of the admissions staff had it posted on her facebook.

Also, you guys don't worry about the trash being talked in reference to the job market in Atlanta. It's a little saturated right now, but is in the process of turning around. By the time you all graduate, it will be fine. I currently work as a pharmacist in Atlanta and it's great!

Good luck to everyone applying!

I hope you're right about the market turning around but I see no let up. Especially with upcoming opening of another school

Does anyone know when the next interviews are for PCOM?

I got an email about an hour ago for an interview for Wednesday, March 31! I had just emailed them asking the status of my application and that was the response. So I suggest doing the same 😀

Yay! I just got an email for March 31st as well. So excited! 😍

In the process of turning around??? LOL how can you predict the market in 4 years? No one will take students from this profit degree mill from Philly when there are 400 grads a year being pumped out from Mercer and uga. Hell thatstnot even counting south
.

Significant expansion will occur as the economy rebounds in Atlanta. Mercer and UGA do not graduate 400 students each year. It's more like 250-275 each year, not including South. Either way, there are lots of opportunities in pharmacy regardless of where students decide to go. I think graduates from PCOM will be valued just a highly as other graduates. I saw this same attitude when South started. I have personal friends that graduated from South and they've done great things.

ok 300 applicants. still a lot

ok 300 applicants...still a lot... WHy would hospitals, independants, etc. take students from this school when there are 350 plus students to choose from every year from top 25 pharm schools in UGA and Mercer??? They know that the students are lower quality (at least the in state applicants) because they did not get into any of the other 3 established schools. Until they are an established program people will take applicants from the already established programs in Mercer, UGA, and yes, even South. The preceptors I work with are not going to increase or open spots for their students. A lady working for PCOM (a pharmD as well) just found a couple retail locations for students to work at but thats it...

OK why are you in this thread? I don't appreciate you calling students who have been accepted to PCOM lower quality. The established schools went through the same process.

Who did you e-mail, Admission coordinator? I can't seem the email to admissions committee.

I just got an interview invite email but not sure yet if I'm gonna go, already got into the school of my choice but going to GA would be nice 🙂

Why else would students go to these new schools?? Of course all applicants attending non accredited schools are lower quality. If they did have great stats then why wouldn't they have gone to the prestigous/ well known state schools??? Maybe because of location? But I doubt it since many students come from all over the country. I'm graduating this year from UT. But these new schools just irk me. Schools with culinary schools and online programs will soon offer pharmD's for 30 + thousand a year and people will go because they can't get in anywhere else

This is how everyone in the market will look at it as well. Every one on here knows that if you have lower grades/pcat then all you have to do is apply to the new schools and you're in. 🙄

Just got an email about an interview for Thursday, April 8. Ehh, seems kinda late in the game.

However, the Georgia campus and location is wonderful, so we'll see! Their Philadelphia College of Medicine seems very reputable too...

I wouldn't mind being part of the charter class anyway. 🙄 I just wanna get in and graduate! I can manage my way from there.

you should take your frustration out elsewhere. Most students attending this school will probably be from other states so many will leave Atlanta after they graduate. It is tough getting into pharmacy school no matter which school it is. And just because somebody has a 95 on his/her pcat and a 3.8 GPA does not mean they will be a good pharmacist so it is not all about stats that is why schools conduct interviews.

It is no longer tuff to get into pharmacy school with these new schools opening. How hard is it to get a 2.8 GPA from community college and a 55 on the pcat with zero Pharmacy experience??? Anyone can do that...and yes schools like south, dyouville, and now this school have accepted people I know with stats like that. LOL god😕

Actually I'm graduating from the University of Tennessee in May with a BS in Microbiology, not a community college. I have worked in a pharmacy for two years. Thanks though.

Your assumption of the quality of students interviewing or who have been accepted is not accurate. Please keep your negativity out of this thread.

Had my interview today (Thursday, 8th)

My group only had four in total...
The campus is very modern and the facilities are great. The student tour was very informative.
Writing prompt wasn't too bad; we had to argue a healthcare point.
The interview was with 2 faculty members and was wonderful. No real tough questions, but they want to gauge your interest and commitment in the school.

ACPE is coming for the pre-candidate visitation on the 22nd!

Hey so for all of those accepted what time did you receive your acceptance emails? Anyone been waitlisted/rejected yet?

I just got Waitlisted 🙁, anyone else on my boat?

Better than me, I haven't heard back anything yet. Btw, when was your interview and when did you get the waitlisted? Thanks.

I interviewed March 17th, and got waitlisted last week, when was your interview?

Well I wouldn't be surprised if end up in your boat! I feel like queen of the waitlist... Blah. Guess I'll find out next week!

I interviewed march 25th and still haven't heard anything yet 🙁

Hi everyone. I have an interview with PCOM April 14. What can I expect?

Well I just got the acceptance letter in the mail!! So much for checking my e-mail EVERY DAY lol. Not positive if I'm going or not since I'm still waiting to hear from LECOM but I'm still sending in the deposit! 😀😀😀

It's a very simple and relaxing interview. Have you had any others yet? It was very similar to LECOM and PBA's process..except PBA had different questions since it is a Christian school. You take a tour with the D.O. students and have lunch with a faculty member (the assistant dean I am pretty sure). Then split off into interview groups and essay groups. The essay is simple and they just want to see how you write and see your thought process. The interview is laid-back and my interviewers even told me they wanted me to be comfortable and that they wanted it to be a relaxed interview. Just look at questions from schools like LECOM and NOVA and that should prepare you well enough, that's what I did. Good Luck!

I found it! Thank you, you have been very helpful.

I just got Waitlisted 🙁, anyone else on my boat?
I am sorry for you , but you still have hope for PCOM. Keep your positive attitude and contact with the admission office. I think you will be fine. I am just curious if you dont mind. How is your PCAT score? I did not expect that PCOM gets packed up that fast. Good luck 🙂

I have one complaint about the interview. The students have to wait for being interviewed. They may need to make it professional like Mercer. The school is totally nice, and I cant wait to see how the pharmacy facilities are like.

I said people with horrible stats have already been accepted.I know 3 peoplewith sub 3.0 GPA.

..not that those are your stats..why not go to UT if you're so amazing??? LOL its because of what I and others have already stated. People that go to these schools have no other reason except they are lower quality. There's no other reason!!! Why would you not go to a Better school that's cheaper??? Because they are not qualified so they apply to all the upcoming degree mills. I don't see how anyone can deny that. Its going to do nothing but inflate the degree
u r discouraging the future pharmacists from PCOM. PCOM or any new school is not choosing any students to fill in their available seats if the school does not see any interest and potential for pharmacy. "sub 3.0 GPA" may be not a good standing, but the school does not only look at only GPA, or PCAT or experience to evaluate a person. It's a combination of all, and I think you know it better than any one else. Will you consider a person that have 4.0 GPA and 67% on PCAT as a low qualified pharmacy student. An accredited school just rejected that student because that student does not have experience in pharmacy. Life is not always fair. Another student gets accepted for the accredited school with a lower GPA and PCAT because that student has volunteered for a hospital (not even as a pharm tech).
I have seen potential of PCOM in pharmacy education. The school may just need to improve their experience in teaching since some of the faculties are new in teaching.

CONGRATS! I'd prob remember you if I saw your face lol. So are you definitely going?

I love the school, but I wanted to wait to hear back from a couple of other ones. But PCOM is most def at the top of my list for right now! What about you?

I interviewed march 25th and still haven't heard anything yet 🙁
I also interviewed march 25th. I called Aisha last Tuesday because I hadn't received anything yet and she told me I was accepted over the phone. I still haven't received anything yet so I think it just takes longer to get to California.
