when i am doing a pcs move, how many miles/day will the gov't reimburse. Is there a max? Also for tolls: if I have an e-zpass, I get a monthly receipt of my charges Is that acceptable or do I need a receipt from every bridge and toll road instead?

I was given 14 days to go fromone side of the continent to the other and was reimbursed for the entire mileage. Not sure there is a mileage per day requisite. Good luck with the receipts.

350 miles per day. EZ pass receipt should be good enough for tolls (or you can suck them up)

If we're just driving (no tolls), do we need to keep our receipts for gas?

No, you don't get reimbursed for gas per se, you simply get the per mile rate which includes gas, wear & tear, etc etc. It does not include tolls which you claim separately. I recommend keeping all receipts for things you claim, although there is some limit (I think $75) below which you do not need a receipt.

PCS suggestion

One additional thing worth doing when you get your counseling for your PCS move is setting up your move as partial DITY (Do It Yourself). You still get all of your junk moved by the movers, but if you get a certified weight of your car empty, and with all of your stuff for your cross country move you can get additional reimbursement for the stuff you moved. If you have already setup up a government move, you can still do it. (I had to do this). I had my car weighed before and after, then after I completed my move I went to the local housing office. I had to write some letter about why I didn't apply for partial DITY in the first place, submit all of my weight tickets, I think I even sent in gas receipts, and then eventually I got more money on top of my per diem and mileage. I never saw an itemization, so I don't know if it was just for moving the weight or moving the weight plus some of the fuels costs.

Yep, partial DITY = free money

You're going to put some stuff in your car anyway, even if it's just a couple suitcases and a cooler with some sandwiches. For the hassle of two trips to a scale, a few hundred pounds of stuff will get you some free money.
