Hey everyone, I just got my Pikeville secondary today and I had a question that hopefully you guys will be able to advise me on. It asks you to attach a "statement of puropose" stating why you should be selected for training as a primary care, rural, osteopathic physician. I have a very open mind to primary care and possibly even practice in a rural area, but I also have an open mind to a specialty and practicing in a small city. I know it's pikeville's mission to educate rural primary care docs, but what if you just don't know waht you want to do. I don't want to lie and say it's my lifes dream to serve as a FP in the middle of nowhere, but I also don't want to eliminate myself becuase I don't conform to the student they are looking for. Any ideas? Thanks.

Just tell them that you are considering becoming a primary care physician but are undecided as to you final choice of career fields. Tell them what qualities that you have that you think would make you a good osteopathic physician. As I recall, I didn't even mention becoming a primary care physician when I wrote mine. I just told them why I would make a good candidate to practice rural osteopathic medicine.
