What's up guys,
Im trying to get a job as a ER PCT in the hospital I work at, I currently work in transport and I have my EMT which is required for the job, I also volunteered in the same ER for a year for over 300 hours. I submitted my application online a few weeks ago and I also emailed the manager. I hadn't heard anything about a week ago so I asked the director and she wasn't sure if the position had been filled or not but she took my name, last week one of the charge nurses was even kind enough to place my resume on the managers desk on Monday. I'm not sure what else I can do, I only go to the ER about once a shift so maybe 3 times a week and I rarely see management. Should I just walk up to her and try to introduce myself, I just feel awkward because I know she has seen my name on several pieces of paper and has still not called me yet so don't want to seem annoying. Any opinions??? All help appreciated!

Is there someone that knows you well and can recommend you to the hiring manager?

I would keep e-mailing. The worst that can happen is that they get annoyed.

There is nobody that I am very close with, I just know a few people on a first name basis and have small talk every once in a while, it would be pushing it to ask somebody to introduce me to them, being that the managers office is not in the ER and they would have to step out of their duties for at least five minutes but at this point I might just have to ask

I think that nurse putting your resume on managers desk is good thing. Sometimes managers have so much going on especially during this part of the year that hiring new employee might not be a priority (speaking from experience as I worked with the manager and hired new employees during this part of the year). It might be that she is considering your resume/app but did not have a chance to start interview process.

If you have hiring managers email, you could kindly ask about it at the end of this week.

I work as an ER Tech/PCT and I worked as an EMT for an ambulance company that frequented the ER I work at. I was friends with a nurse who introduced me to the charge RN and I'm pretty sure that's how I got the job lol. I would suggest you introduce yourself to the charge RN and explain that you are applying for the position as a PCT and that if she had any advice on what you could do to become a better applicant. Whenever you transport from the ER, try to talk to a nurse or another PCT and ask them about their job, how they like etc and just be friendly. They will remember it. At least I do.
