I thought it might be helpful to start a review of anesthesia programs for the PDA. Please list what program you have, pros and cons. Also comment on any other programs that have been reviewed and tell what you thought about it. Josh

Here is a post by someone on another site:

I have Mass General for my PDA and use it daily. Skyscape.com has some
free downloads that lets you try some of the programs before you
purchase. If you have multiple anesthesia programs through skyscape,
they are linked to each other. For example... you are looking at
myasthenia gravis in Mass Gen, a link will be there so you can access
all programs info on the same topic with one tap of your stylus. Also,
if you purchase from that website, you receive free updates.

Here is another post from another site. BTW...are you people alive? I know there are a bunch of stock trading, gass passing technophiles on this site...surely someone has some input on this topic.

I have gone to skyscape.com and downloaded a few programs from their site. The
problem I've found is that the only information in the programs that we are concerned
with is blocked in the trial versions, so even though I've had the opportunity to work with
the programs, I'm still unsure of what type of information will be provided for volatile
agents, induction drugs and pressors.
So far, I can say that I do like the format of the "ClinAnne" series of products. I just
wonder what it will tell me about the drugs pertinent to anesthesia (blood:gas partition
coefficients?, MACs?, etc)

Unfortunately, I have yet to see any PDA programs that will be of benefit beyond the first few months of your CA-1 year. The programs are watered down versions of their handbook brethren and overpriced. As an institution, we wanted to give the residents these programs for use, but found none were worth it.

I would recommend a comprehensive drug program, and I would freely give out a shorthand typed version of Morgan & Mikhail I spent a year creating, but unfortunately, my PDA was stolen after I completed that endeavor before I had a chance to upload the completed file to my new home computer.

Again, I'd pass on the PDA stuff. I would recommend the Anesthesia Interactive Library, but it's pricey at $400 and we convinced our department to get on an institutional license for everyone.
