Since my Palm m515 is on the fritz, I've been browsing the internet to educate myself on what's new in the PDA/smartphone world. There are so many different models out there, most of which have TONS of features and are therefore very pricey. I think I'd like to get a smartphone (it seems really convienient to have my phone and PDA be the same device), but I don't NEED to have internet access. I have access to a computer everywhere I go. I really just want a device with the "basic" PDA features (phonebook, calendar, memo pad), lots of memory, and ability to write on the screen (rather than having to type with those small buttons). Multimedia is nice, but not a must.

Are there any smartphones out there that just have the "basic" features I'm looking for? Something lightweight/compact would be nice, too.

I hope there are some tech-savvy folks out there who can offer some insight to an ignorant consumer. 😛

Are you looking for a Palm OS device? If so, it'd be hard to go wrong with the Treo.

treo 680 sounds perfect for you, you'll have to download a simple program to be able to write on the screen if you're addicted to grafiti but you're probably familiar with how to do that so shouldn't be too difficult.

check this deal out, seems legit and I've found TONS of useful programs/info on this site (for example converting your dvd movies into files that can be viewed on your treo!)

Yeah, after doing some more browsing, I think I've come to the conclusion that the Treo 680 is a good option for me. Thanks for informing me of that FREE Treo offer!
