Curious question...

do ped. specialists earn as much, more or less than their internal medicine counterparts?

I think in general they earn a little bit less, just like general pediatricians earn a little less than an internist.

NameoftheRose,

That is entirely dependent upon which subspecialty you are referring to and really has minimal/nothing to do with any perceived adult-analog. For example, a neonatologist makes a huge amount of $$. The last facility I worked in, they made circa 350k, with the Chief making around 450k...and there is no adult counterpart. PedsICU --> mean starting range: 130 ~ 220; PedsCardiologist --> about the same, maybe a little higher.

Wow!! My peds specialists are apparently woefully underpaid! And in one of the highest cost-of-living markets as well...

Yes, peds is very underpaid. I think thats because peds people want so much to work witk kids that high pay is not needed to lure them.

Well, it has never been said, nor ever CAN it be said, that a pediatrician is in it for the money! I never did understand why they are so undervalued and thus underpaid. Yet, I doubt that there will ever be a shortage of them. There are always the people, like myself, that care more for the children then trying to earn a true "physician's income." Maybe we should all boycott pediatrics until they try to LURE US with higher salaries?? OOPS, but I signed that darn contract already..too late for me! Wouldn't want to be on the NRMP's WANTED LIST.

I never knew their salaries were that low...that goes to prove their in it for those :)beautiful faces :)
