Hello!

I am a current second year resident and I would like to know what the best study materials are for the dental boards. A few questions I have about the board exam:
- How broad is the material that is tested. Would it be of help studying dental school boards books?
- How long do you recommend studying for the exam?
- What resources did you use to study? Pediatric handbook, certain websites/books, AAPD guide?

Thank you so much in advance!

I took boards four years ago but I currently teach dental residents.

- I would not spend time on dental school boards books- you will have more than enough material to keep you occupied with studying without them.

- I studied from February/early March on (but I had a newborn at the time) and did well. At the program where I teach, no one has ever failed and I would say most residents really start studying sometime in March.

- Handbook, reference manual, and the AAPD core curriculum (articles) are the main things. You can also use pediatric dental textbooks but I didn't.

How could one prepare for this if the program that you are in relies on self study and not guided lectures?
TIA for any additional advice you may have other than what you already provided!
