When you verify out a prescription and its for a child and you want to verify the correct dose, and when u look it up the dose is given in mg/kg. what weight would you use to estimate the correct dose? also for those who work for CVS, when you verify is the DOB on the verify screen (i know that the took the year of the DOB off the pamphlet)?

If you want to verify, you have to ask the parent or pediatrician for the child's current weight. Anything you have logged in the computer is probably outdated (especially in kids).

I think the screen is the only place that the date of birth is still visible at CVS. I really hate that they took the year off of the labels, makes pickup a lot more difficult.

And drop-off because the pharmacists are going gung-ho about the techs writing down the DOB and the name on the scripts. What's the point though if I'm just writing down the DOB from the profile?

I don't know, how many robert smiths do you have coming to your pharmacy? I don't see why DOB is important at all!

Because if someone presented the rx to you at drop-off, you are supposed to ask them the DOB, not get it from the computer...

As for the CVS system, the only place the DOB was altered was the label.

Yes, DOB is on the verification screen, and it will also PEDIATRIC in red font if the patient is under a certain age...but i haven't figured out what that cutoff is...somewhere in the 15-18 year old range, I think.
