Ok, does anyone know of a mnemonic or song or something for memorizing those pat-a-cake, peek-a-boo, rolls front to back, use of cup and spoon etcetera etcetera etcetera peds. milestones??? why do I have to know this? 😡

You probably don't. It may involve 1-2 questions on the Peds Shelf exam, but the amount of memorizing it would require to be able to give an "educated guess" probably outweighs these types of questions' importance/yield.

The best piece of advice I can give is to have a child of your own. Then you'll never forget the milestones and questions about them become very, very easy.

But this doesn't help you. Would it help if I told you that my Peds shelf had ZERO questions on milestones?

Absolutely! This is very encouraging 👍
What about on the MLE? I mean milestones are just plain boring 😴

I was taught with a stick figure where 2 months was shoulder level, 4 months elbow, 6 months waist, 8 hips, 10 knees and 12 feet. the idea being that you get muscle control from top to bottom, so by two months you can control your neck, so you dont have head lag, by 4 you control your shoulders and can roll, by 6 sit if they put you in sitting position but not get there yourself, by 8 sit yourself (hip control) then obviously crawl and walk 10 and 12. 12 was also talk in single words. 2 yo talk in 2 word sentences 1/2 understandably, parallel play, can copy a line. 3 yo can do circular movements, draw a circle, ride a tricycle, walk up stairs with alternating feet, speak in 3 word sentences.

I just used the brute force method (straight memorization). Painful. Needed to know it for the oral exam in my Peds rotation, though.
