I saw this 2-3 y/o in clinic (pcp) for a well child exam and noticed that i could see his epiglottis without much difficulty when just asking him to open up wide, etc. He was totally asymptomatic. I'm just wondering if that could have any significance or if it's relatively common among peds pts. I'm asking this question here instead of in peds since I figure u guys focus in on these things during ur exam more than we do.

This is quite common in children. Some adults too. In fact I can see the tip of my wife's epiglottis. Usually very easy intubations.

I haven't seen it commonly, but to one pt I said "I can see your epiglottis." She said "No, you can't." I said "Yes, I can." She said "No, you can't." And on it went.

I guess the next question should have been "Do you know what your epiglottis is?"
