Hello,
I have an oral exam coming up and was given some questions to prepare. We were given some sets of CSF findings and asked to interpret them. The first was a straightforward bacterial meningitis with low glucose, increased protein and high polys. The 2nd was viral with high lymphs, normal glucose and slightly increased protein. This is the 3rd set.
6 month old Infant with Fever, Anorexia and Vomiting
CSF Shows
WBC 40 80% polys, 20% lymph
RBC 4000
Glucose 55
Protein 45
What is your interpretation?
Bacterial with Traumatic tap? Although wouldn't the WBCs be a little low?
Partially treated bacterial meningitis?
TB or Fungal meningitis?
HSV encephalitis?
Bacterial abscess formation with hemorrhage?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I have included all of the information we were given.
