I have my doubts about the practical career aspects of this training, but am willing to hear what anyone who has done it has to say about it.

Dr. Lewis Goldfrank wrote an interesting autobiography and talks a lot about his experience with toxicology (though he is an EM physician). I really recommend it if that is your thing. It seems like it is more common for emergency medicine to go into toxicology and it would follow that there would be a significant amount of pediatric training involved in that since they tend to ingest unusual things.

There is a peds trained toxicologist out at the U of A by the name of Dr. Boyer Hasen, she speicalizes in snake and scorpion poisons. She finished a peds residency and holds appointments in the peds department. Thats all I really know, but it seems like you can do a peds residency and then go that route if you like.

The Medical Director of the Upstate Poison Control Center is Dr. Cantor. He is Peds trained, Peds ER trained, and Tox fellowship trained. He is also director of the Peds ER and Peds ER fellowship. Phenominal Educator and attending. Also may start physician Tox fellowship in next few years. There is already a Pharm D tox fellowship here.
