I'm considering applying for a peer tutoring position at my college. It is paid, although I have no idea how much and it honestly doesn't matter. I've used the math and science tutoring service offered extensively myself and it was very helpful, so I thought it might be nice to give back, maybe even reinforce my own knowledge of the info.

Another option would be to volunteer as a tutor for something like the YMCA, or other NPOs in the area.

I've started volunteering in a hospital ER 8 hours a week (expect to have around 400 by the time I apply), and so far have 16 hours of shadowing (watched a CABG and a meningioma craniotomy this week!!) but will be taking a couple weeks between semesters to gain another 60-80 hours.

I should mention that I have almost a decade of work experience as a pastry chef, with plenty of leadership thrown in there.

Would it be more valuable to peer tutor and solidify my own knowledge, or volunteer tutor? Thanks

1) Better for MCAT prep and cash income.

2) Better for general expectations of Community Service/Volunteer - NonClinical when it comes time to fill out the application, with bonus points if you are assisting those in need.
