Hello everyone,

I have decided to submit my AMCAS application to be verified (mainly) but also to give it a shot to a few schools with my current stats (cGPA: 3.62, sGPA: 3.59, MCAT 24). I am planning to take the MCAT again in August (but I'm not sure what date yet)... My question is if I should let med schools know I plan to retake it or if by putting this I would be placed as pending?

I would like to know because I want to be considered at the beginning of the cycle with my current stats instead of being placed on hold. Then, once I take it apply to others and update those I have already applied.

I would appreciate your input.

Since you're talking about AMCAS I'm assuming you are applying solely to MD schools. Honestly, I think it was a mistake to even submit your primary application. I would strong advise against submitting your primary. Take a year off, study for the MCAT and apply next cycle to get the best chance of getting admitted. Even, if you took the MCAT in August, your score would come out in mid-late September, and you would be submitting your secondaries late in the cycle (unless you had an extremely fast turn around). Therefore, you would still be late in the cycle. If you are dead-set on submitting your primary, then you should say that you are retaking!

You have nothing to gain applying currently with a 24 and not selecting the pending MCAT option.

Statistically, you have a very small chance of being admitted with those stats. Your only hope would be to kill the MCAT and apply slightly later in the cycle. I would take that option or, more realistically, take a year off and apply again with a higher MCAT.

I know this is probably not what you want to hear, but I would take a year off. Study for the MCAT well and take it when you are ready. Going into the cycle without the best possible application would waste a lot of time and money.

Right, I understand where you are coming from. I am submitting to AACOMAS but the reason I want to get verified for AMCAS it's because I know what I did wrong and I am planning to re-take it in late July/early August...Also, I know my chances are slim but I did find 11 schools (excluding medical schools in Puerto Rico) that accepted a 24 according to MSAR.

So, I wanted to know about whether putting pending or not for MCAT would make a difference?

Hello! Just wanted to share with you that I was invited for interview at 6 DO schools early in the cycle, I attended 4 and was accepted to all early in the cycle as well. I will be going to NSU this fall! I did not retake the MCAT

Congrats, best of luck in med school
