Penn gets $225 million

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
$225M from one single donor? That's impressive!

Freaking insane, good for the school though.

Needless to say the Perleman family name is already all over Penn's campus...

For a lot less than $225 million I would put their name all over my house....😀

How much would you charge for a tattoo of his name on your forehead?

Haha I was just going to ask the same question. Man, I don't think I'd be able to do it. Then again, I have never seen $225 million in front of my eyes.

Are you kidding me? $225,000,000 for a tattoo of some dudes name on my forehead, sign me up.

I would do it for a lot less.

It would be the ultimate ice breaker and the biggest elephant in the room.

And all over Philly in general! My uncles school is named after them too!

Damn impressive donation!

Darn. That Penn Med shirt I spent $5 is obsolete already. I wonder if they'll give refunds or exchange it for one that says, "Raymond and Ruth Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania"

That's a painfully long name for a school, but if it meant a full-ride scholarship courtesy of Raymond and Ruth, sign me up.

Agreed, it's extremely awkward to have two first names in a school. Wouldn't the Perelman School of Medicine have sufficed? Though I suppose you can't be picky when you're getting a donation like that.

I believe Cornell's medical school's actual name is "Joan and Sanford I. Weill Medical College of Cornell University", and it is simply known as Weill Cornell Medical College. I assume Penn will be going by the last name only as well.

"Sanford," but otherwise correct.

Wow, it is amazing what $225 million can do, the name of the school officially changed on the website already!! LOL

No need to fear any longer- They are going with "Perelman School of Medicine" at the University of Pennsylvania 😀

Stanford university is also officially the "Leland Stanford Junior University" but nobody goes by that because it makes it sound like a community college.

Penn already has more money than God - this was just a drop in the bucket of their 3.5 billion dollar capital campaign. A fairly sizable drop, but still, they'd already made over 3 billion before this donation - that's just the past 5 years, and just donations.
