Match list deadline is quickly approaching but I am racking my brain between Penn or Temple PM&R programs.

I really liked Penn because of the promising new chairman, brand new rehab facility, CHOP, their unique categorical program and amazing location.

However Temple seemed like a more established and larger program but with TUH being in a bad area. I also really liked their residents and got along with them very well. Any ideas or advice on either program? Anyone heard experiences regarding Penn's PGY 1? Thanks!

If the only negative you can think of with Temple is it being in a bad area, I can assure you that it is not a big issue safety wise. You could argue that its location in the city gives the program some strength because you will get exposure to lower-income medical, insurance, and social problems that you don't see if you only treat rich patients with good insurance.

Im clearly biased and wont say anything negative about Penn- they have made some positive changes over the last few years

I wouldnt let location be a major factor The majority of your 3 years at Temple are spent in the suburbs and other areas of the city at affiliated sites (ie MossRehab). This also includes CHOP. Only 7-8 months are at Temple and this is PM&R- it's not like you're working after business hours. The location also lends itself to plenty incredible rehab-relevant pathology (ie tbi, sci, polytrauma, amputee, etc)

I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you have
