Cam, did you get accepted? If so, CONGRATS!

My letter of "getting on the waitlist" was a small, thin envelope.

ixitixl,

Did you get a letter saying you are "waitlisted" or "on hold." I also received a thin envelope and I was placed on hold. I was wondering if they have waitlist AND hold list, or just a hold list.

Thanks a lot

Thanks for the message! I just checked. You're right. It says "hold." I don't know how I misread that. beponychick, Is your letter actually signed? I thought it really interesting that the associated dean of admissions actually signed my hold letter.

also on hold at penn state... Does anyone know how much waitlist movement penn state has had historically?? Our position might not be so bad come april or so.

-biff

From what I hear, a "hold" is not the same as a "waitlist." I am curious to see if there are people who actually got "waitlisted" at Penn State post-interview. And yes, if anyone knows how fast the waitlist/hold list moves at Penn State, please do share!

All the best to everyone waiting...

Really??? I assumed 'hold list' was psu's post interview waitlist. Is hold higher/lower ranked waitlist? To be honest, the few people on SDN who've not been accepted post interview have all received the hold letter--prob just a waitlist in disguise. If anyone out there has received a bonafide 'waitlist' from penn state, let us know-

well here is another question then....

is there anyone out there who was rejected post-interview at Penn State? Maybe Penn state only sends out "holds" and "acceptances"?

For those of you who have heard back, when did you interview?

bump... I'm intrested in this also.

I interviewed on 11/17 and received my letter on 12/24.

I interviewed 11/14 and got my waitlist letter on 12/26. Oh Yeah!!! Merry Christmas to you too! Not that I'm bitter :meanie:

I just got my acceptance letter yesterday (2/3/04) and I interviewed 1/14. Hope that helps you. The envelope is big with lots of papers to fill out. Good luck!

Hey, I interviewed the same day as you. Were you waitlisted first?

congrats. i interviewed the same day as you. guess that 6-8 week thing doesn't really mean much. now i'll really be harassing my mailman.

I know the feeling of waiting for the mailman. I'm actually convinced he eats my mail.....

If I interviewed in early December and haven't heard back...is this a bad sign? Does anyone know if they review people in the order that they interview?

ZekeMD,

just to clarify, you were "waitlisted" or were you placed "on hold." The difference between the two is really annoying me. Maybe I should just call the admissions office and find out...

All the best 🙂

My letter said "hold." I don't think there is any difference, except for the way they refer to it. I wish it was different, but we're all waitlisted.

hey Zeke,
recently sent in my updated transcript-hope to hear back soon.

just wondering, for those who are big fans of PSU, what are your reasons?

Location Location Location! Unlike many of you, I prefer small towns to big cities. I'm a little bitter towards PSU however because of the waitlist. My interviewer basically told me I was in and then much to my surprise I got that dreaded thin envelope. That really threw me for a loop and I don't think too highly of that.

sorry to badger, why do you like small towns? Not to seem nosy--are you married/engaged? As a single person-I feel like location is very important as the PSU pool is limited to the school--in bigger cities like philly there are med/grad/undergrad students a'plenty. Alas, I would still love to go as they grant MD's and have a fine program--if only they'd accept me.

biff

I grew up in a small town, went to undergrad in a small town...its just what I've grown accustomed to. I'm neither married nor engaged. As far as that goes, I'm not too concerned about it. I wouldn't mind going to a smaller city (Rochester, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, etc), but I can't see myself in Boston, NYC, Philly etc.

yeah-I grew up in a small town (pop 10,000) as well--very hick but clean and very very safe. I went to school and am currently in Philly--very different but love it. There are definitley positives in a rural location, safety and serenity come to mind. As much as I miss never having to worry about the late walk home, I also worry about not meeting enough people... I am a fan of PSU but am a bit concerned about the lack of other students/peers in the area... Never bothers you, even a little?

I had a similar experience. I got the dreaded thin envelope after my interviewer told me getting in shouldn't be a problem. Location is definitely a plus. I grew up in a small town of about 1200, and places like NY and Philly scare the living daylights out of me.

why do large cities scare the 'daylights'out of you? Is it just the potential for crime? -its interesting because I've been raised 0-18yrs in a very rural town with an exceptionally low crime rate and ended up attending a big city school on the cusp of a very impoverished neighborhood--initially was an adjustment but not one that i wasn't prepared for.

For all of you waitlisted or on hold, are you sending in additional information?

Also, do you know what the waitlist movement is like for penn state? I hear that in some schools, almost everyone gets off the waitlist eventually but I am not sure if that is true for this particular school. Any thoughts?

I would also love to know the 'movement' history at PSU. Bepony chick-what schools do you know of that admit much of their waitlist?--this makes me feel a bit better.

oh yeah-- I sent in updated transcripts and letter of interest after waitlist. hopefully, will help my situation...

biff

I also sent a letter of interest with updated grades and an additional LOR. I'm not sure how much that will help though.

Just another thought, I've heard of some schools this year waitlisting students with high stats because they don't think they will go there anyway. Maybe this is the case with PSU, I don't know, but I know of a couple people with great stats whose interviews went well who are in the same situation as we are.

I interviewed on 1/16 and I haven't heard anything yet. Thanks for posting this but ever since you have I have been checking my mail everyday since.

🙄

Aw sorry Robz! I think there is a wide range of time between interview and decision. Mine went pretty quickly but one of my friends took months to hear. Besides, I still think my mailman eats my mail, maybe you have the same problem. Good luck and happy waiting!

For those who have been accepted, when they ask us to send in a letter as a formal acceptance, do you know if we need to say anything specific at all or they just want something in writing? I know that some schools have forms that you actually fill out and sign to accept the offer, does Penn State have it too (just want to make sure I don't have any papers missing from my pile of stuff).

Thanks!

Don't worry Eveangel. You're not missing any form. You just need to write them a letter (and by letter I mean a few sentences) saying you accept their offer, blah blah blah. You'll get an email back from them when they receive your letter. Congrats on your acceptance!

Yeah I called yesterday and they told me it takes 6-8 weeks to hear from them...and that all they said.

I'll just play the waiting game again...🙄

That blows bro. I interviewed on Jan 16th and got my waitlist letter on the 21st of Feburary.

i don't think they submitted the survey to usnews...so they didn't have a ranking. i'm not sure if their class is full though.

got on the hold list after 6 weeks. ah well

do you know how their hold list/waitlist works?

actually...no. better than a rejection though. 🙁

do you have a personal reason to go to penn state? i.e. family lives there, fiance is there/wants to move there for job, anything? because i mentioned that on my secondary (my fiance grew up about 30 min from there, and we've visited a bit) and it was mentioned by both of my interviewers.....
i'd like to see some future fellow penn staters on here (it seems like they pretty much put everyone on hold!).....
