I've heard that if Skip Brass hears you refer to the school as "UPenn," he automatically rejects you 😛.
It's good because if you use UPenn they know you know you're not at Penn State. (Just kidding, everyone here does call it Penn)
Can you explain this? Are there specific departments that interview and specific weekends?
Yes. They bring the applicants in by their proposed grad group. One or two days are very specific to that group. It's really to try to make sure you meet with those people and get a good selling on our program. I don't have the schedule yet myself. If you can't make one or either, they are flexible.
Neronix-what do they do with the history of science applicants?
Don't remember. For the rarer interviews, I can't remember if they bring you on miscellanous day or just put you wherever. I think I've seen both, but I dunno what they're doing this year.
I will definitely have to interview with the HSSC. I actually have to submit a seperate application to the grad dept. Do you think I should call and ask how they deal with this or just wait to see if I get an interview? Also, is Penn a rolliing admissions school? I forget.
For HSSC they don't even do grad school selection until January. You could e-mail the office and ask if there's anything else they need from you. I know someone who applied HSSC, but I asked her and she's not even sure so just ask the office. It's kind of a rare thing. Just look up Maggie Krall's e-mail and send her your questions. Penn is NOT rolling. All decisions are released... ahhh jeez what was it... Second week of March I think it is?
Incidentally, I (and most others) have chosen CAMB...it's by far the biggest graduate group at the school, with I think BMB being second.
Yeah don't sweat too much which group you pick. You're not really chosen based on that (there's no quotas) and you can always switch. CAMB will probably have 2 days and a 3rd rollover day there tends to be so many interviewing for it. One thing I would say is I am in BMB and it's definately not the second largest
🙂 It's one of the smallest in BGS (Biomedical Graduate Studies). Not sure what the second largest is... Neuro and Immuno are pretty big.
The thing with the interview dates is, when they give your the date they want you to stick with it. If too many people switch they get really backloaded with those people and all the late applicants. They'd much prefer you to get in early if you can.
Let me know if you have more questions. I don't know if I've been that useful, but I'll do what I can
😉
