Aw, I'm sorry you got wait listed at Pitt 🙁 Haha, although, you'd probably rather go to Columbia right?

Well, if another top 10 gave you the thumbs up, then hopefully this one does too right?

Well kudos on getting into Pitt!! Looks like you have some other solid options as well. Not a bad position to be in!

I'm pretty sure that my first choice of where I'm accepted right now is Columbia, but I also really loved Penn and Cornell. I am still totally in disbelief that I've already been accepted to more than one school that I am crazy about, so I can't even begin to imagine having to choose between Columbia and one of those! When I started this whole process, I wanted to go to medical school so badly that I would have been absolutely happy going ANYWHERE. This is a dream come true.

Anyway, where's your first choice? Penn for sure?
 
Yeah, I think so. Although I LOVE Pitt, the WISER center is awesome, and the city is where I grew up so it'd be cool to go home and work in the UPMC umbrella I grew up under. I also got a great vibe from the students there too. But I think Penn still edges Pitt out slightly.

Haha, we'll see! I probably won't need to make that choice though 😛 I'm giving myself like 1 in 100 odds of getting in.
 
does anyone know about them full-rides? or know of anyone in years past that has got it? you must be stellar to get themmm

My interviewer mentioned that the full-rides are mostly reserved for the URMs.

During the info session, my group was told that they will offer 12 full-tuition scholarships, as they have in past years, and a few partial-tuition scholarships. Last year they gave 9 partials, and this year maybe fewer depending on what money is alotted for them.

As for who gets them, the info packet just says those with "outstanding academic performance and achievement, a broad range of intellectual interests, demonstrated leadership, commitment to interests other than academic work, and unique life experiences that may contribute to a medical career."

Also, the recipients are not decided by the admissions committee, but by a separate body that, I assume, represents the patrons funding these awards.

The figure I have for this current academic year is $39,648. That's tuition only. Columbia's predicted tuition for next year 08/09 is about $43,000. I think HMS is generally just under $40K. They're all in the same ballpark more or less. But those are just a few.

I thought they won't release decisions until March 30th...we are all in for the long haul...

So looks like I didn't make the cut for Cornell, ah well 🙁 I"m sad...not really because I loved Cornell, more because it's probably a sign that I didn't make the cut for Penn either. Haha, is that weird?

Haha, I'd wish you luck, but you seem to get accepted almost everywhere you interview! Wish I was as sparkling as you 🙂 I think I glimmer at most...with an occasional twinkle if the lighting's right.
 
Hmm Penn. I loved the school so much. Easily my top or 2nd to top choice. I'm not too upset about not getting into P&S or WCMC because I think my interview went really well here.

Haha, my Cornell interview was pretty bad. My second interview didn't really speak english, so i couldn't understand her...it took me 5 minutes to figure out that she was saying "you're a little early". D'oh. And my first interviewer didn't want to talk to me...he just read my app and said "yeah, i know all I need to know, do you have any questions?"

I THINK my Penn interview went much better, but who knows... I get kinda shy when it comes to talking about why I"m a good applicant (which is why i had trouble at the hopkins interview too) so I hope they didn't get the impression I'm not confident.
 
I'm sorry to hear about cornell and hopkins textuality because you sound like a fantastic person 🙂

I was waitlisted at Hopkins, but I felt that my interview went really well. Both of my interviews went almost double the normal time alotted for then because I really connected with my interviewers. I'm a little bit confused about my waitlist decision because I don't know how much more I could've done, but at the same time honored that I still have the possibility of getting in. Honestly though, I really am shooting for Penn and HMS which I liked the most based on interview day and printed materials. I hope we get to be classmates!

Why are there so many, "Didn't get into Cornell" comments? Do you all know something more than what their status page says about letters being sent out mid-March?

In other news, I'm greatly anticipating the three or so decisions I'll hear in the next few weeks... including Penn at the end of the month!

Aw, you're a sweety. I hope we get to meet up Penn second look! Don't worry about Hopkins, they just have the luxury of being super duper picky, and who knows what mix of things they're looking for.


Oh, and the Cornell comments are because apparently the acceptance emails went out today.
 
I woke up at 7:30 on a saturday because I am nervous about Penn. This is driving me nuts! Penn is my alma mater and number one choice and if I don't get in, I will be so freaking sad... and, on top of it all, my 7 year bf is going to have such a hard time moving with me if I don't get into Penn because my other options are in rural towns w/o many jobs for him. 😱🙁:scared:

This is so hard since there is nothing we can do about it at this point.

I actually felt like one interviewer at Penn was difficult to communicate w/ bc of language barrier. He didnt even know what "pre med reqs" were in the US since he is a foreign md grad. Thank god my student interviewer was really nice.

Do you know if Penn if a school that equally weights the student and faculty interviews? I'm hoping it does as well since I got along really well with mine.

Aw, yeah, I'm about to embark on a long distance relationship with my bf of 3 years. It's going to be so weird after living with him, to not see him for months at a time! It's sweet he's willing to move with you. I told mine not to bother since I'll probably be really busy and I want him to take advantage of certain career opportunities he has right now. I've never been in a long distance thing before, so we'll see how it goes. I'm hoping med school and friends keep me busy enough so that time will just fly by 🙂

They do weigh them equally-- so they say. I would think so since the like to pick ppl who would blend in with their classmates.

I did long distance sort of and I can't do it... I need the support. I need to be able to come home and have a hour of quiet time with him just having dinner. Well, if we both get into penn, we can cope together and distract ourselves downtown at all the BYOBS!!! :hardy: 🙂

Haha, we can start a support group for people at Penn with LDRs 😛 And keep each other away from trouble. As my bf likes to say "it's not that I don't trust you, I don't trust THEM" Haha. I think i'll be fine as long as I can find friends to unwind and chill with who won't be constantly flaking out on me to go make out in the corner with some guy/girl.
 
Luckily I have my spring break coming up soon, so by the time I am back, hopefully I will only need to obsess about Penn for a few more days until decisions are reached.

Guys at bars skeeve me out nowadays anyway 🙂 I'll hang with you haha.
My 4th year friend at Buffalo said when she started med school, guys looked at girls and only saw "a pair of floating boobs" with no head. Sorry, offense to guys! I thought that was the funniest statement, and probably had some validity to it. :laugh:

Haha, ditto on the skeevy guys observation, I"m not much of a bar person, and when I go to the clubs with my friends, we try to watch each other's backs to make sure no sketchy guys are grinding away back there without us noticing (don't you hate how they just sneak up on you like that sometimes? haha).

I'm hoping for Philly because it's closer to bmore (and the bf) and it's only like a 2 hr train ride 🙂 So go Penn!!

About 2 more weeks left... I really hope my crummy waitlist karma from MSSM and NYU doesn't stick around.

Penn has such amazing food trucks. I love their food trucks!!! Indian, Korean, Middle Eastern, Vegetarian, Hoagies, Greek... 5 bucks can go such a long way. And, they have a bunch of fun bars on campus practically.

(sigh) 😕

lol. It's a sign with a confused person who won't know what to do when I can't get my grub on at the food trucks during lunch if Penn rejects me. That and Penn Med is my number 1 and I would love to go back to Philly! The wait is killing me 🙁

hahaha Ziggy you crack me up :laugh: Your obession with Penn food trucks is hilarious (I've been there...and yeah I'd definitely agree with you), but I love the fact that your avatar is a picture of a hamster "getting his grub on" and stuffing a carrot in his mouth...too funny 🙂

I hope we both get into Penn just so we can sample the deliciousness offered by Penn food trucks :luck:

When I went there as an ugrad, I told my dad I wanted to graduate and have a food truck monopoly. They still dont have one that has good japanese rolls... i'm talking like speciality rolls w/ eel and avocado tops.

Didn't realize my hamster was stuffing its face, but it does reflect me since I am a big time FOODIE! There is amazingly cheap indian buffet like 5 blocks away. Qdoba, Izzy and Zoes, and Greek lady are so great too. I could go on forever about this. :laugh:

I actually decided to go pre med after i had a tour of penn med my junior year... my love for medicine sprouted at Penn Med and i want to carry it out there. AHHHHHHHHH 😱

Please!! I have the girl I babysit pray for me each night before she goes to bed that Penn med accepts me. Very cute. I wonder if it will work. My parents keep telling me that it won't be the end of the world, but to forget about Penn overnight not going to work... I know life will go on, but it's hard to deal initially being the type A OCD premed character that I am. :scared:

well I absolutely love Penn so yeah I'd say it's my #1, but IF (and that's a HUGE IF) I am lucky enough to get into Penn, I still have to keep the scholarship from Pritzker in mind when making my decision...it's a dilemma I wouldn't mind having though!

Haha, from your avatar, I'm wondering if you're going to Beijing for the Olympics this summer? I went to some of the olympic structures...they look interesting.

What's a food truck? Now I'm really curious and hope I get into Penn so I can look sample this food truck thing... Haha, I'm a huge foodie too, if you need any tips on baltimore, I have a bunch!

They are similar to an icecream truck but it is stationary. They are pretty good. I have had the opportunity to eat from those trucks quite a few times.

Food truck is just a store front on wheels. Like the dirty metal boxes that vend food haha. They are actually pretty clean I think considering all food you buy out is relatively "unsanitary."-- thank god for an acidic belly haha.

They are spotted along Spruce and near the Pottruck Gym and by 34th street and Walnut. I wonder if Auntie Annes is still around...
