Hey, Penn has that dual-degree program that takes four years. Does anyone remember what was said about it during the interviews, and if it is difficult to get into it? I'm curious to learn more about it, but i can't seem to find anything substantial on their website. Thanks guys.

i highly doubted you could finish DMD and PhD within four years. The shortest time is 7yrs, that assumes everything is working as the way you want. Research is tricky sometime, you can't be absolutely sure about the results and this is why sometimes it can take longer than you expect. Are you sure, u like to do research or at least what to expect. Well, i know i'm not answering your question, i am not aware of the combine degree program at UPenn. I know they have oral biology related graduate program, but my understanding is _it is a separate program from DMD. Of course, a student can do both, but UPenn doesn't offer combine degree as in other schools which already have established combine degree program and support student financially. But i could be wrong, they might add this new program recently. Anyway, good luck!

yeah penn does have a dual degree program. its a masters program though, not phd. i dont know all of the options but i know one is bioethics. im pretty sure you dont have to pay another tuition or fees, which is nice.

Speaking with Dr. DeRossi he said that there have been some students that have added a PhD. Also, the students have the option of doing the PhD almost anywhere in the country (he said they would hook you up)👍 . However, unlike formal combined degree programs, I think you have to pay for the DMD portion 👎
So really, it's many variables to weigh. If you're going to spend 7-8 years doing two degrees, consider how much debt you actually want to be in.
