I've been looking online and some intern positions say "per diem" or "on call".
What does this mean exactly? Will I be able to work as long as I want (ie. throughout pharm school) or is there a specific duration (6 months, 1 yr, etc...) they only hire?

Thanks 🙂

You're basically expected to pick up shifts that can't be filled, or cover for call outs.

It's best to ask the employer what's expected of you. At my institution per diem interns are expected to pick up two 8hr shifts/month.

But you're able to work for as long as you want until you quit?
Because I have a friend who did per diem but was only hired temporarily for a year.

Thanks

Again, best to ask the employer what the exact terms of your employment are, but if it's not advertised as a temporary job I'd expect my position to last as long as I'm a student.

do you also get raises if you're per diem? for example if u work at CVS or Kaiser I know you get a raise each time you move from P2-P3 and so forth.
