I am a DO graduate who is doing a masters in my year off since I did not match into EM last year. I only have Comlex 1 and 2. I applied to every EM DO program in the country including combined specialties. And plan to do the same for the allopathic minus places like Harvard, yale, etc.

How many of the mid tier/lower tier will interview without a USMLE?

I suspect your best bet is going to be actually looking at the programs' websites and then contacting them if this info isn't there. Is it really going to help you if you were told that 65% of programs will take COMLEX but you didn't know which ones?

FWIW, I am fairly sure that VCU does accept COMLEX, and I know they've had a good track record with DOs. Several residents and attendings here are DOs, including one of the chiefs this year.

I agree, you should contact the programs. It seems like most of us are allo students or otherwise have taken the USMLE, so we won't be able to help you much.

everyone's diff...contact and ask. I finished up the interview trail last yr (I am a DO). I wouldn't categorize the programs, that may skew you away from great or guide you towards not so great programs. go to where you think you want to go and if you're hard up then all the programs are places you want to go. I specifically remember UAMS is strict, must have USMLE 1+2 (I only had step 2), on the other hand john's hopkins didn't require it from me. take this year to network and beef up your CV, rewrite your PS. it's late but try to find out why you didn't get in and what you can do to fix it. good luck!
