Everyone keeps asking me how i knew my percentile right after taking the DAT. how does it work, is there just a bank of 10,000 questions that are randomnly made into to a test. How do i know i earned a 96.1 percentile?

This has been a very elusive question. I'm about to take the Boards in a month or two and I'm taking the computer version (the same way as the DAT), however we don't get instantaneous results, and our dean says they 'curve' the boards.

So this is what I have heard

1.) Each day the averages are taken from the people who have taken the DAT and curved accordingly

2.) There are several test batteries which randomize and has a separate score depending on the battery

3.) Tests are taken at random so no person has the same exam, a grade is determined and ranked w/ the other people who have taken the same exam at that same test center. Thats why sometimes if you ace the bio section you get a max of 24, I had a 99.8% in bio and got a 24. Whereas, one of my friends who had a 99.5 and got a 25. Doesn't make sense to me.

Those are the three hypothesis.

Based on my chart, 24 means 38/40 & 25 = 39/40. Looks like you missed 2 questions and your friend missed only 1 question. The percentages probably show what percentage of test takers were able to get 38/40 or 39/40 @ that center or all centers prior to your test dates.
