hi
i'm a perio resident in my first year

its 3 months now , at the begining every thing was o.k
now,,i feel like i know NOTHING, the articles are coming my way and i can't find the time to read what i NEED and HAVE to read
we are only 3 residents, so the load is sometimes hard to handle..

any tips on how to manage time, get to read all the materials to read, look up some answers for the clinic, prepare the presentations and critique some articles??.....UGGGGH

any quick references u use??how do u manage to do it ?
and how do u read 30 articles AND critique'em in 2 days?? (2 days= 8 hours)

any help will be appreciated

get 'Hooked on Phonics', it worked for me!

2 days + perio residency = 48 hours of reading time.

Sorry. I couldn't resist.

Actually, that's not entirely true. Its probably more like 24 hours of reading time because you have to subtract out the 24 hours of "consulting the OMS" time.

darn, and i was just about to post "read the abstract which is probably the same for all perio articles.......blah blah blah plauqe blah blah blah scrape blah blah blah refer blah blah blah I wish my other testicle would descend...." but I will hold out just to be nice.

Hey, you're also from NYC?

Obviously you haven't read those staple textbooks of perio grad programs, "How to drag a simple 10 minute procedure into 3 hours," or, "How to over-surgerize patients, causing them exorbitant amounts of pain for 0.016 mm of attachment gain, and overcharge at the same time."

I suggest you look those up.

Go to AAP website and purchase:

Periodontal Literature Reviews

Obviously it's not all encompassing, but it covers much of the important classic perio literature into the 90s and will give you a decent start for case presentations and being pimped in general. It's not good for surgical technique, implants, sinus lifts or distration, but is good for eitiology, prognosis, disease activity, surgical rationale, non surgical therapy, occulsual trauma, histology, splinting, root surface treatment, diagnosis and examination, maintainance and oral physiotherapy etc.

Be happy you're not at Michigan. I'm happy I'm not.

Hey, don't knock it, holmes. You never know when that extra 0.016 mm will come in handy . . .
