So... does every number above each colomn mean that there are that many valence electrons?

Elements in IIA will have 2 valence electrons

Elements in VIIA will have 7 valence electrons

Now will that mean

Elements in VIIIB (Fe, Co, Ni) will all have 8 valence electrons? (4s2 3d6)?

Elements in IB and IIB only have 1 and 2 valence electrons repsectively???

Cu and Zn...

no transition elements don't count. Because of the way they arrange their electrons, sending to d orbital sometimes without completing s, their valence electrons aren't fixed by the group number and u just have to figure it out by the configuration.

So
group 1 a =1
group 2a = 2
skip the whole transition elements block
group with Boron = 3
Group withCarbon = 4
Group with Nitrogen = 5
Chalcogens = 6
halogens = 7
noble gases = 8

I hope that helps 🙂
