Perpetual limbo...Life after Secondaries

Given that I scored in the low 20's on my MCAT, I felt obligated to get in everything as soon as possible. I had my AACOMAS file sent to the schools by July 1st. At this point, I have received about 9 secondaries, 1 on-hold (WVSOM) and yes, 1 rejection (Ohio-->13% out-of-state in each class+ 107 in each class = no big shock that I was not given much consideration). I have also returned all of my secondaries (all within 48 hours of receiving them) and know for a fact that my LOR's were all received. I guess what I'm getting at now is: what can I expect now? Given my low MCAT, do adcoms tend to perpetually delay these files until the spring or will I get closure, aka rejection or an interview within the next month. Weirdly, I get pm's from people claiming to have identical mcat scores as me and having a ton of success. Should I actually expect to hear from adcoms soon, or will I have to wait months?

If December rolls around and you do not have any interviews then you can worry.

I think other than calling to add updates... right now you've done the best you can. just stay positive and think of something else to do, to kill time. maybe go fishing or play poker.

pjc199 i'm stressed to. I have low mcats and just finished my AACOMAS application and from the sound of it, it seems like my application won't even be transmitted for a while. so lets keep up with each other so i don't feel so bad either.

Well, the limbo can be nerve racking, but the best thing to do is, and I know it sucks, but wait. I had my app's complete last year near mid-october and got accepted in April. Just keep the adcoms informed of any updates and wait for those interviews. Since I was in a similar situation last year, my MCAT scores kept me waiting for a bit but it all worked out well with 2 acceptances. Good luck and just keep going!

The simple fact that you are on the ball shows something. I think much of it is going to depend on LORs. Any good ones, meaning adjunct faculty members (i.e. clinicians) from a perspective school or are they the standard premed letter from undergrad and a typical DO letter (whatever typical means). Osteopathic schools are going to look at the whole package. If it is good your in, if it similar to other individuals who have higher grades and MCAT scores this may present a problem. Having everything in early I think helps you. You may have to wait awhile for interviews but that is the name of the game.

PCOM is my number one choice school at this point. Fortunately, I worked with a PCOM graduate for the past five months and received a stellar LOR from him. I know for a fact that my LOR's are all stellar since my pre-med committee claimed that my letters were all extremely strong. At this point, I'm just waiting to get out secondaries from a few schools that I have yet to receive one from (LECOM, UNECOM) and them I'm basically set. The one thing that hurts me is that I am a NJ resident and of course, UMDNJ-SOM is one of the most selective osteopathic schools around, taking only about 80 new students each year. We shall see.
