AHHH!! I am writing and rewriting my personal essay and I absolutely can't focus on anything until I get this off my mind!! I'm revising it for about the 4th time and I feel like I have writers block...I'm frustrated!! AHHHH! I can't wait until this is finished...

Just had to get that out...

Me too, I'm sooooooo frustrated. It is pure torture for me to write a PS.😡

AHhh thanks for responding! I am at work and I just can't focus on anything. GET A HOLD OF YOURSELF!! (<-- speaking to myself. 😉 )

I had a hard time writing mine last year too, I nearly had to be pressured by the deadlines to get it done. You know the types of things to include, so the best advice I have is to just start typing whats on your mind. Even if it's just a sequence of ideas, put them into more formal writing later.

I should probably start writing mine.

LoL you guys are funny. I understand where you are coming from. I took a week off from work to write my personal statement. And literally for that one entire week I didn't leave the house. Anytime my friends would call to do something I would say, "Nope can't do anything...must finish the personal statement." After I wrote my first draft I only gave it to one person to proofread it. And that person was a long time friend of mine who has an English degree and is in law school. It really helps not giving your essay to so many people because everyone's going to have a different opinion. I say give it to one person who you trust and knows absolutely what they're doing. It should make the process easier.

I did exactly the same thing! Except my English degree, turned-lawyer friend completely picked apart my essay. Trial lawyers...

Giving your essay to one, or even two, people you trust and have a very good hold of language and mechanics (it seems lawyers do). Good luck, everyone starting those PS! Go out for ice cream when it's over.

This was my exact strategy too! I had the rest of my PharmCAS finished by August, but my PS got started late October. I agree that just writing whatever really helps to get started!

I asked several opinions, but I get most of my help from the ones I trust most. One negative for asking one person is that even if that person loves your essay, there may be 3 other people who might hate it. So you will have to hope that most of the adcoms reading your essay find it unique rather than cheezy or cliche. If an essay gets approved by many then you have less to worry about.

I sat down to write my PS this afternoon and only wrote a few sentences. After feeling unsatisfied and frustrated, I had to quit. I just feel like if I could get it started that the rest would flow. I'm praying for some sort of inspiration. Maybe if my life was a bit more exciting this essay would be easier to write 😕.

My PS came easily. I just let it flow knowing i wanted to such on certain aspects. Now it's just a matter of matter of getting it proof read for errors. I know it's hard to focus on writing a PS when you're thinking of so many other things. What schools am I applying too? When are my LORs going to be finished? How much is this all going to cost?..... Good luck :luck:.

I didn't even understand what you wrote there. I would wait after it gets proof read before you say it was easy.

I asked my boss to proof-read my essay next week. This way I HAVE NO CHOICE but to write it by next week.

I am just afraid I'll feel akward afterwards, because my essay is going to share such personal information that I've never shared before with anyone but my close family.😳

woo. can't go wrong w/ DFA
anyways, i've always wondered who that was in your avatar. care to enlighten me?

btw are you a fan of MSTRKRFT? are you going this saturday?

It's Francoise Hardy, a french folk singer from the 60s. I'm not that into her music, since I can't understand it, but I like that picture a lot. Yes i am a fan of MSTRKRFT, but unfortunately I am not going to see them because I have so much crap to do. I saw them at coachella like a year ago though.

I know what you mean, it sort of feeling like you're disclosing too much personal information maybe because i'm a pretty private person. I hope everything works out for you, don't give up on UCSF. :luck:

Thanks, you are too sweet. I'm going to UCSF for a tour on 25th, and I'm dying from excitement. I feel like it's Christmas in July. Just an idea of seeing the school from an inside is giving me butterflies. ( So if any UCSF students are giving a tour to a class from SFSU on 25th, I'm one of the instructors ):luck:

I wish you lots of luck this application cycle too.

I found an awesome smiley that describes this thread perfectly:
