Hello all!

I know there is a thread for this that pops up every year, but one of my professors wants to read my personal statement before writing one of my letters of recommendation. This professor knows me very well (I was in her office hours all the time nerding out about things) so I was a little surprised by this but oh well.

I was wondering if anybody could review my personal statement? This is my fourth attempt at writing it and 3rd draft of this individual version so I want to knock this thing out. Now that I feel relatively confident with what I wrote I want to get some feedback from other people.

Thanks for reading!

I'm not the person you want reading your PS, but I will say that you should take your time with it and have multiple people read it. An M.D., a D.O., a PhD, whomever. Then have someone look at it for grammar and everything. I went through 27 versions before I had a final that I submitted to AACOMAS. Definitely not something that you want to "knock out". You can probably give your prof an early version if all the ideas are there.

Great idea asking a DO/MD/PhD to read it, I didn't think about that. I've sent it to my schools writing center to be evaluated but I haven't heard the best feedback about the quality of their editing..

I would be happy to read it. Can you PM a link to it in a google doc with it set up so that I can edit it and it will track the changes? That's the easiest way to do it. I'll be in the hospital all day tomorrow but will be able to go over it and give you notes tomorrow night.

No problem, thank you! It will be my first time using google docs so let me know if I set it up incorrectly and I'll change it.

I can also read it. I wrote mine a ridiculous amount of times and have a program that does a much better job of grammar edits/sentence structure than Word. You can PM me.

Hey everyone! Thanks to anyone that offered to read my personal statement so far, it has come a long ways since originally posting this.

I brought my personal statement to the most critical writer I have met in my college experience (my history of medicine professor) and she suggested a few things that I thought were odd and wanted to run them by you guys just to see what people thought of these ideas:

She is writing one of my LORs, so we were discussing my grade trend. She seemed very admit about noting in my personal statement that I have averaged a 3.7 over my past 60 credits... I'm not sure how I feel about this because schools will have my transcript to view for themselves.

Another comment she made was to make sure I had a sentence or two indicating that I have a years worth of masters level biomedical science classes scheduled for next year. But for this suggestion I thought the same thing as before, medical schools will see my tentative schedule in my transcript so I wasn't sure how I felt about this either.

As you guys know, I'll be applying DO so I only have 4,500 characters and it's gotten to the point where I have no room to add without lots of editing so I was wondering what kind of weight these suggestions hold?

Imo it's not necessary really

It isn't necessary in a personal statement there are sections on most secondaries where you can add that information

Sorry to sneak on to your thread, but are any of you willing to read another PS?

Would anyone be willing to read my PS as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone else is still willing to read a personal statement, let me know. It would mean a lot.
