Hi,

I have a friend applying to Anesthesiology and had a few questions.

Do you have to write two separate personal statements for Anesthesiology, one for Preliminary Year and one for Anesthesiology? Or can you just submit your personal statement talking about why you want to go into anesthesiology to your PGY-1 year as well?

If you have to write two statements does the one going towards PGY-1 have to be targeted to medicine?

Thanks!!!

My prelim med essay is the same as my anesthesia essay, except that I added a paragraph about how important internal medicine is to being a good anesthesiologist.

For transitional programs I just used my anesthesia essay without changes.

I used the same essay for my prelim programs -- they know you are only with them for one year. Nobody gave me any problems.

I actually signed outside the match for my prelim year.

I sure hope your friend has long applied, cuz it's a quite late to be worrying about personal statements. Anyway, good luck to him/her.
