Things I look for when I read personal statements:
1) interesting vignettes that supports why you enter ophthalmology.
2) personal things that make your application unique.
3) I don't like essays that outline grades, scores, and honors. I can read that on the first page.
4) State your personal and career goals. We want to know what drives you to ophthalmology.
5) Good writers can apply all of the above into one central theme.
