I think you need to be yourself. Tell them everything you want them to know in a way that explains who you are and why you want to be a dentist. I started off with a story as a child and went almost in a timeline through my life and the different experiences I had and tied everything together. I also explained academic difficulties I had in a very positive way. It did take me a while to complete it, something like 40+ hours but that's just me.

If you need help starting. Or just to get an idea of what to put in it. I highly recommend that you visit your schools career services and they will help you with it. just take an appointment and talk over your concerns they will guide you towards the right direction. plus they have plenty of experience and are well rounded.

To me, writing the PS requires some soul searching.

If you haven't started already, then I suggest you:
1. Brainstorm(soul searching)
2. Create a concept/mind map from 1.
3. Figure out what you want from that map to be in the PS.
4. Start writing as much as you can w/o worrying too much about the character limit.
5. Then start cutting out what you don't need to meet the character limit
6. Have family, friends, professors, dentists, college writing workshop, and/or SDN edit your PS.

Be sure to make yourself stand out. Adcoms read thousands of essay and they read them really fast.

Not to sound cynical here but be aware of who you send your PS to on SDN. It will be really unfortunate to find out your rejection(if this occurs) was due to an unoriginal PS.
