Hi everyone, I am a reapplicant planning to apply again this upcoming cycle. I am currently working on my personal statement and I had a question about how similar my new personal statement should be to my previous one. In my last application, I wrote about a specific patient encounter from my experience as a nursing assistant that helped solidify my interest in medicine. For this cycle, I am considering writing about a different patient experience just because I think it can create a better hook and will flow better with the overall structure of my personal statement. Essentially these two interactions come to similar reflection and reason. Would this come across as inconsistent or contradictory compared to my previous personal statement? Both patient interactions occurred before my first application cycle, so I am wondering if admissions committees might question why I didn’t include this story previously or might even perceive it as a lack of honesty.

To the question:
Most admissions professionals suggest a full re-write. Schools where you have applied before will likely have retained your previous application (especially if it was the immediate cycle before), so there is opportunity to compare. I'm not sure how much this helps.
