Personal statement proofreaders - 2009/2010 admissions cycle

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi! I know school is starting and many of you proofreaders are busy with class. I was wondering if anyone can look over mine and give me some feedbacks. If you can, leave me a message here or just PM. Prefer pharmacy students. Thanks a bunch!

You know.... most schools auto-deny people who can't read directions .... makes you think, huh?

I want to advise you applicants and proof readers that the essay is one way us admissions counselors weed out people. It looks very suspicious if you bring us a wonderful gold plated essay then when we ask you to write one on a certain subject after the interview and it bombs.

Not to suggest that you shouldn't write a good essay but getting an English major at Harvard to write your essay when you have the writing skills of a high schooler is not a good idea.

Hey peoples. I wrote my essay the other night, and just now, I rewrote it because I didn't like some of the directions I took. I really think my revised essay is good, but it is about 650 words. This is fine for PharmCAS, but another school just advises

"Applicants are required to provide the Admissions Committee of the South Carolina College of Pharmacy a 500 word essay discussing your reasons for choosing pharmacy as a career and your objectives and goals in the future with regards to your chosen profession."

Does that mean at least 500 words, at most 500 words, or just in the ballpark of 500?

Thanks.

I would assume that when they ask for a 500 word essay that they want that to be the minimum.

Is the first post updated? I emailed two individuals on the list several weeks ago and haven't heard back.

Yes, it is. The list of names in the first post indicates the members who as of today are still proofreading personal statements. I remove names from the list when volunteers request that I do so.

Wow, it's been so long since I was last on here. I've been proofreading as much as I can, but with everything going the way it has, I usually only have time on the weekends. I can still proofread, and will continue to do so, but it does get a bit demanding and time-consuming at times. I think I've done around 50 since June, including supplementals, so please be patient if I take a week or so to get back to you. It really depends on the week I'm having.

Hi,

In my personal statement, I mention where I attended for my undergraduate studies and am not sure whether I should say 'the University of California at Berkeley' or simply 'UC Berkeley'

what do you guys think?

thanks!!

what's a good way to organize your essay?

I have a career in another healthcare profession. I started off with saying how my job now got me into pharmacy (a little bio on myself). After I talked about additional reasons why I want to be a pharmacist. And lastly I talked about why me over the others and my long term career goals.

Also, what's a good way to intially capture the readers attention? I don't want to bore anyone in the beginning to the point where they won't read the rest.

I wrote everything that was on my mind and it came out to 4200 words. Even though its under 4500, is it too long and again likely to bore the reader?

Biggest mistake by applicants in general is they do not follow directions on their applications. The limit on the personal statement is 4500 CHARACTERS....NOT words.

Your personal statement is about yourself. Only you can think up of ways to "catch" the readers attention because no one else has walked the life that you have walked.

Doesn't really matter too much. I would put University of California, Berkeley at first, and any references made to the school after that could just be UC Berkeley or Berkeley in general. Everyone knows Berkeley, so I don't think you should be fretting about the minute details, but rather the content of your personal statement.

I know I'm not pre-pharm anymore, but I was wondering if anyone would be willing to proofread my Letter of Intent for a clinical internship.

Ladies and gentlemen, my name is pharmaman (...lol)...ok all joking aside...I just finished my personal statement and I will need some help reviewing it. Can anyone help me out, please??

Thanks in advance!!!

Hey, the last two links in the first post is dead.

hi, ive been attending this forum for a few years as a guest and I would be very grateful if somebody would read my essay.

lolz on the starcraft

I had Admissions review my personal statement. PM me if you want his email.

I sent emailed my PS to him last night and he got back to me just now. That is a really quick feed back if you ask me. I am grateful to have another pair of eyes overlooking my PS.

By the way, I frequently check forums on pre-pharmacy at SDN and also read on the side. For me, the more information I get about pharmacy school application, the better I become.

🙂

Dude! You sent the same exact message to three different threads! Get a life, and write your own damn "Personal" statement! I hope no pharmacy school will take a looser like you!

Hi, is this topic still in effect? I could use someone to proof read my statement and possible help me gain a little bit of a better direction. Please let me know, thank you.

A reminder to our volunteers:

Some members have mentioned PM'ing volunteer proofreaders and getting no response back. Remember, your volunteering time is free for you to give or take as you see fit. Don't forget that if you are unable to proofread, PLEASE PM me to say so, so I can remove your name from the list. It would really help those who want their statements proofread.

Once again, thank you very much for all your help!

My thanks goes out to Storm90 for proof reading my essay. He was very helpful for the short amount of time he had to look it over.

Also, thank you laketica and patmcd for your offers to proof read my paper.

If anyone can proofread my essay please pm me. I want you to be as brutal as possible 😳 (Applying to canadian schools)
