Finishing up my personal statement I am running into a snag. Apparently ERAS will allow you to make this as long as you want. Right now, if I print it off in the same format programs will see it (new courier text, 10 pt font) it runs about 1.5 pages. Is this too long? I have heard under 1 page is the rule, but I just cant seem to cut it down.

Will program directors be put off by a statement 1.5 pages, or is this common place and the 1 page rule is just a myth?

I've been told about the one-page guideline repeatedly and consistently enough that I'm sticking to it like glue. Has anyone else read your composition yet? Have you asked them for advice on cutting it down?

I may be wrong but I thought that although ERAS allows you to type as much as you want, program directors will only be able to view one page.

try your best to get it to one page. Have someone else proof read it to see if/where edits can be made. If you cant and if eras wont cut it off, then send it in.

For those interest, I emailed ERAS and they told me we are allowed up to 28000 charaters......now, does anyone know how to count these on word? Thanks!

i believe there is an auto word count.

Just got a second email from ERAS, this one saying we can use up to 32000 characters. This accounts for about 10 pages in the text and font they use. So, I suppose if you want you can start your memoirs in your personal statement.
