Are any of you who have gotten into vet school this previous year interested in sharing your personal statements? I am a pretty decent writer, but I would like to beef up my statement for this year's cycle, and would like some others to see how others are talking about themselves. My email address is [email protected] if anyone would like to share. Thanks!! Good luck with your 1st year.

I have just sent you mine. Good luck. I had to rewrite it like six times. Make sure you have as many people as possible read it. Preferably someone with a writing background. I got into two schools with it. Good luck!

I PM'ed my statement from last app cycle to you. If anyone else is interested, I dont mind sharing, just let me know.

Best of luck! and be prepared to write, and re-write, and re-write some more 😉

I would definitely be interested PAThbrd, and if there is anyone else that wouldn't mind sharing I would be so appreciative. I have a rough draft done, but I am still feeling a little lost on how to nail it.

I'm just getting ready to send my application off, well, I was done with the WHOLE application process like 2 months ago but the essay part, holy moly, has been kickin my butt! I would love to see someone else's essay. Mine is mostly done but jeez its so hard to talk about yourself. I end up sounding so one dimensional:
"I like animals. I am smart. I am good student. I am try hard. I am friendly." lol.
Ok the essay isn't quite that bad, but it's not much better either! I'd really appreciate some help =)

I'd be willing to send my essays from last year but I don't have the computer anymore and it was the greatest feeling to send my printed VMCAS application through the paper shredder the other day 🙂 Sorry no help but good luck everyone!

Hiya, if you or anyone else doesn't mind it would be fantastic to have some personal statments to read for advice etc.
I've written a first draft but it's too long and not worded very well so i definitely need help!
My email address is [email protected] if you want to share.
Thanks a bundle in advance!

I just sent you mine via PM.

Thank you so much, really useful!
Just wondering, I'm english and we have a 4000 character limit (including spaces); but the PS i just got its 6,250. Do you Americans not have a word limit or just a longer one?
🙂

I think the character limit is 6,250 on VMCAS and I was just at that (I even had to find some shorter synonyms for some words and take out adjectives to fit it 😉)

I'd like to read others as well, if you wouldn't mind sharing. Deadlines are coming upon us fast, and I'm worried! :scared: Would be nice to see that I have something along the lines of other people who got accepted 🙂

I would also be interested in any statements, it would be very helpful [email protected] or PM 🙂 Best of Luck

If anyone could send me a copy as well, I would greatly appreciate the help towards fine tuning my statement. Like everyone else, rough draft is finished and I am just looking for that 'finished' feeling I should get after reading it but its not there yet. Thanks!

it would be of great help to read some of the essays. English is not my first language so it would be of great help.

my email is [email protected]

would anyone be interested in reading/editing my personal statement? i'd really appreciate any help, advice, and suggestions. 🙂 please PM me if you're interested.

I'd like to be included on the PM personal statements. I too am struggling with getting a beautiful final draft.

Pathbird and chemokine, would you mind sharing with me as well?

Would anyone PM their personal statement to me? This will be my 2nd time applying...

Just so you guys know this thread was started in 2006, so the original people may not be frequenting this board as much anymore.

I remember the torture of writing mine 😛

Remember its not going to come from a few drafts - its going to come from A LOT of drafts. The big thing that really helped me with my story is letting a whole bunch of different people read it. Your parents, friends, professors, classmates, veterinarians, technicians, whoever. The more people that can read it and give you input the better. Get ideas down, even if you think they're insignificant, and some people can work them in where you couldn't. This represents a snapshot of you and why they'd like to see more of you, so give it to 'em good! 😀

I am new to this forum, and I have been working on a personal statement by taking vague advice from various sources, but ideally I would like to see some personal statements from people who have gotten in to vet school. Being told how to write a scientific paper and having an example are 2 very different things. I think its the same for a personal statement. Anyways could some of you who made it in please send me yours so I can get an idea?
My email is [email protected].
Thanks,
Asillym

Hey all. I have been busting my butt with this personal statement and trying to get it ready to send out Monday, but I am having the hardest time conveying my passion for wanting to go to vet school. If anyone would be willing to share their PS's to give me some ideas I would appreciate it.

I'm still pulling my together, but am happy to take a glance at others. I'm not fantastic in the grammar dept, but can give you feedback on content, flow and organization.

And if any vet students are willing to share theirs, I am always in need of inspiration 🙂

Hey everyone. I just joined SDN, but have been on here quite a bit. I am a non trad student and will be applying the coming cycle. I have been working on my ps for some time now and have several different starts, but am really having a hard time putting everything that I would like to down on paper. Any advice from successful applicants out there??? Also, could anyone let me know what the current character limit is? Thanks so much and congrats to all who have received acceptances thus far!

Hello everyone! I am new on here and appreciate any help you can offer. I am applying to vet school for the first time and I am not quite sure what to put in my personal statement. Should it be more like a story or a form letter? My e-mail is [email protected] and if anyone could send me a sample of one, I would greatly appreciate it. If you are going through this process and I can be of any assistance with application info, school info, gre info, etc, please let me know.

Was just wondering if you finished your personal statement and could possibly send me a sample of yours or any that you have received from this site. I am presently working on mine and could use some insight. Thanks so much.

Did you happen to get your personal statement for vet school done? If so, or if you have an samples, would you be willing to share them? I am applying to vet school now and could use some insight. Thanks My e-mail is [email protected]

You should check out "Writing About Me" by Barbara Huntington. This book is specifically written to teach us about writing a personal statement for a medical program.

Thank you so much for getting back to me Maddie. I will def. pick up this book.

Try trading PS's with willing current applicants so you can edit each other's, or take advantage of the PS readers on the pre-vet forum and send yours to them for feedback. If you want, I'll be happy to read and give you thoughts on whether I think you're headed in the right direction, or maybe even suggestions for the types of things you might want to do with it. Just PM me if you want input. However...

It's a little bit creepy for many already accepted students to just send their PS's to random strangers on the internet. First of all, it's very personal, and it doesn't make too much sense to expose yourself to someone who has not done the same. And there's always that plagiarism issue. I have no problem sending a copy of mine to anyone who contributes regularly to these forums and I've come to sort of know (at least online), but I rarely ever send them out to new people who just come looking for successful PS's. I know a lot of others here feel the same.

I would also REALLY appreciate some examples of successful personal statements as well! I know that they are personal statements, which are very PERSONAL, but I'd like to see how people sequenced their ideas and how their essays flow. Please e-mail me at [email protected] or PM me if you are willing to share! Many thanks!

I would also appreciate any examples of personal statements that worked. I have a good start on mine but could use help on how to tailor it and make it perfect for the committees that will be reading it. Thanks! My email is [email protected]

I can't figure out a good way to start a personal statement. I would love to see examples. [email protected].
