Hi, I have a question on whether this would be an appropriate response to the challenge essay. In college, both of my parents lost their jobs, and I had to pay for our bills and mortgage for 5 months. I am not sure if this is an appropriate response to the challenge essay since all I did was double my work hours. Is this something I could talk about even though I did not mark myself disadvantaged?

I think this is a fine topic for a challenge essay. You probably offered your family more than just financial support during that time - you can talk about how you emotionally supported your parents in addition to discussing the challenges surrounding your increased workload. I don’t think being considered disadvantaged matters; your current financial situation doesn’t negate the hard times you experienced in the past.
