The Taus says to use the Lange Immuno/Micro review, but I'm sick of buying books so I'm sticking to Nairn (immuno for med students). I'm not naive to think that anything is unimportant, but what are the most high-yield topics for basic immuno on boards? I just read 7 chapters on basic immunoglobulin/TCR/innate and adaptive responses (The first section is a general overview and Nairn is a relatively short book) and I'd like to maximize my studying and cut out the bull. Do you guys suggest I just pull topics out of FA or is FA deficient? I am actually using Kaplan MedEssentials and Goljan as my primary review source (annotating into these as opposed to FA). Has anyone had experience with medessentials immuno and wheter its topcis are high-yield? Thanks a lot.

Have you tried checking it out from your library? I am in the same boat as you - I refuse to buy so many books this year, but I've done just fine by borrowing or just looking at (since I study in the library most of the time anyways) RR bio, Levinson Immuno, etc.

I cannot speak of Nairn, but I used Levinson to prep for my micro/immuno school midterm and nbme shelf and I did well - I credit my immuno knowledge on that book. I felt like immuno was so scrambled and abstract until I read the immuno section of Levinson during my studies. I highly recommend it.

EDIT:

Oh, I guess I didn't really answer your question. I feel like FA has a good outline. I just used Levinson to make sure I understood it - FA is fairly bare bones afterall. Mind you, this is just from my shelf experience.

Is that book better than clinical micro made ridiculously simple? I thought CMMRS was in Taus.

Taus lists a few immuno sources, but I figured I'd just substitute my own. Its funny you mentioned the library, because I never use it. I like owning the tangible book, so I rarely need to go to the library unless I need to look up something specific (i.e., Hematology). Plus my school has an excellent resource where you can paruse a limited catalog of online books, and we all share student consult information. The more I read the immuno for medical students, the more I feel that I have a relatively good grasp on the material and what I really need to do is memorize stuff like CD's, IL's, HLA associations and review the pathology.

I can save that stuff for when the step gets closer.
