petition to AAMC to take mcat for the 4th time in a year

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
"My computer froze once again in the middle of the test and I lost 4 minutes of time on an already incredibly difficult PS section."

Did you raise your hand and show the admin this when it happened? If you just let it go..... there is no way for you to prove that it happened.

You should call and ask, that really sucks. They should do something because of the computer crashes at least.

So the computer crashed, you spent an hour on the phone with AAMC at the testing facility, you somehow lost 4 minutes of test time, and you submitted the test for grading?

What happened when the admin at your test center contacted AAMC? What did AAMC tell the admin to do?

At the testing site, why didn't you ask to cancel the test and ask for an alternative testing date when it froze during the PS the second time? That's what I would have done! I woulda been like... "Is there another day I can take the test, say in the next month?"

The problem here is that you left the center, accepted to have your test scored when you should have been more adamant when these issues occurred.

Is there any way i can petition or file a complaint to be allowed to take the test a 4th time? Has anyone heard of someone doing this and succeeding? I really don't know how much the people at AAMC would care to allow me to take it a 4th time. Please give me your thoughts.
I'm under the impression that such a petition is generally granted when you have good reasons for the request, which you seem to, so find out the procedure for asking for an exemption from the policy and do it.

Hi guys,

I have a really messed up situation on my hands and i don't know what to do. I signed up for the mcat on April 24th and planned on rescheduling but missed the deadline to reschedule within an hour. I didn't show up to the test because I thought if I don't show up and don't void, it won't count as a try. However, I later found out that by not even showing up, that still counts as an attempt.

I took the mcat again a second time on May 22nd and voided because of one messed up OChem passage, when i should have scored.

I signed up a third time (my last possible attempt within a year) for today. This is where things went horribly. The computer froze and I was not able to start my exam until 2 PM when the start time was 1 PM. They moved me to a new computer after spending an entire hour on the phone with AAMC headquarters. My computer froze once again in the middle of the test and I lost 4 minutes of time on an already incredibly difficult PS section. I had to score since I need to apply this year and this was my last attempt allowed for 2014.

My stamina was already ruined after having to wait an hour to start and on top of that, i lost an additional 4 minutes during the test. I know you can only sign up for the MCAT 3 times within a year. However, i believe my situation is really unfair and i'm completely devastated.

While the experience you're describing is obviously somewhat frustrating, I still have a hard time garnering much sympathy....

This makes me think you're treating the MCAT like a game of Madden...hitting the reset button because the other team scored

Did having to sit and wait really "ruin" your test? And, I'm sorry...but 4 minutes?

On the scale of zero to adversity, this doesn't exactly rate highly. You're going to have more distractions during an average med school exam. If I were an adcom this pattern of having difficulties even getting through the test would concern me.
